Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc. seeks an Executive Director, Clinical Science to lead a large oncology-focused portfolio across Hematology, Oncology Assets and Early Development, providing strategic, scientific, operational, and people leadership.

Reporting to the Head of Clinical Science Oncology, the role drives portfolio delivery, governance, and talent development, champions AI-enabled digital transformation, and ensures scientific rigor, patient focus, and regulatory readiness across diverse programs.

Qualifications

Advanced scientific or healthcare degree required (PhD, PharmD) with oncology drug development experience.
Alternative: Master’s Degree in life sciences with extensive oncology development experience.
Experience in regulatory submissions and cross-functional leadership is essential.

Responsibilities

Hold accountability for portfolio delivery from the Clinical Science perspective across studies and assets.
Provide strategic oversight for a portfolio of oncology assets across multiple therapeutic areas.
Drive development strategy execution with cross-functional partners to achieve milestones.
Ensure regulatory submissions, health authority interactions, and lifecycle management alignment.
Advance AI-enabled, digital capabilities to improve decision-making and study oversight.
Lead talent development, succession planning, and inclusive leadership across CS.
