Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Leads the recruitment, retention, and ongoing professional development of Medical Directors and Physicians at all assigned sites.
• Conducts weekly check-in meetings with Medical Directors and Physicians to review clinical outcomes, improve operational efficiency, and provide real-time support.
• Develops and executes comprehensive onboarding and training programs for all new Medical Directors.
• Manages physician scheduling and oversees the accurate and timely processing of provider payroll.
• Facilitates and tracks Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements and opportunities for the clinical team, physician state licensing, board certification, DEA certification, BLS certification and APP protocol agreements/supervisory physician status.

Clinical Operations & Oversight

• Monitors and manages site medical utilization metrics, including specialty consults, non-formulary medication requests, off-site appointments, and ER transfers, ensuring care is both clinically appropriate and cost-effective.
• Tracks and optimizes physician productivity and clinical workflows.
• Collaborates with IT and clinical informatics to implement systemic changes, template improvements, and note optimizations within the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Assists in the operational and clinical launch of new correctional healthcare sites.
• Travels periodically to various facility sites to conduct in-person rounding, audits, and relationship-building with local staff.

Policy, Compliance, & Quality Assurance

• Creates, manages, and routinely updates clinical policies and procedures to reflect current evidence-based practices and legal standards.
• Maintains a deep understanding of current operational policies and ensures site-level adherence.
• Serves as the clinical secondary lead for company-wide infectious disease management and protocol development.
• Acts as the secondary clinical liaison with external agencies, including the Department of Public Health (DPH) and accreditation bodies such as the NCCHC (National Commission on Correctional Health Care) and ACA (American Correctional Association).
• Assists with Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives and participates in mortality and clinical reviews.
• Provides APP education oversight, onboarding, training, and competency development across clinical operations.

Direct Patient Care & Emergency Response

• Provides immediate clinical and operational guidance to facility staff during medical or facility emergencies.
• Serves in an on‑call capacity as an escalation point for complex clinical or administrative issues.
• Performs other duties as assigned to support FCH’s goals, objectives and values.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

• Deep understanding of the unique clinical, legal, and operational nuances of providing healthcare in FirstClass Healthcare correctional facilities.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to lead, mentor, and hold highly trained medical professionals accountable.
• Ability to remain calm, decisive, and effective during medical emergencies or facility crises.
• Strong proficiency in analyzing clinical utilization data, financial reports, and productivity metrics to drive systemic improvements.
• Strong working knowledge of EHR systems and the ability to champion systemic technical improvements.
• Proven ability to build consensus and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including custody staff, nursing teams, and external public health officials.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced correctional healthcare environment.
• Possess strong judgment, discretion, flexibility and integrity.
• Strong ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information.
• Demonstrated clinical excellence and the ability to adapt to a fast‑paced, challenging work environment.

Requirements

Minimum Education and/or Experience Qualifications

• Medical Degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school
• Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible clinical practice experience as a physician with two (2) years experience in clinical leadership or medical director role.
• Two (2) years of experience in a correctional facility physician role.

Required Certifications and Licenses

• Must have be a Board-certified physician within the state(s) of operation
• Must have and maintain a current DEA registration
• Must have or attain a BLS Certification prior to the first employment day

Preferred Certification and License

• CCHP (Certified Correctional Health Professional) certification
