Job description

Executive Director: New England Classical Singers

The New England Classical Singers (“NECS”) is seeking an executive director. This is a part-time position as an independent contractor averaging approximately 10 hours per week. The executive director is the senior managerial position within the chorus, reports to the board of directors, and works closely with the president and artistic director to help promote the chorus and work to insure its ongoing operations and long-term health and viability.

JOB DETAILS – Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities of the executive director include the following:

  • Management of donor appeals. Typically this includes a mail, email, and social media campaign in the fall and an email and social media campaign in the spring. There may be additional appeals for special projects periodically.
  • Preparation of all donor acknowledgments.
  • Updating the NECS constituent database for all contributions made.
  • Manage donor events and outreach to individual donors as necessary.
  • Identify potential grants and assist in grant writing.

Publicity, Marketing, and Outreach

  • Social Media – manage and update social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
  • Website maintenance – Update content on the WordPress website.
  • Audience Development – Work with the board to expand audience and improve the audience experience.
  • Update GiveButter (ticket platform) for concert events
  • Publicize and schedule auditions and concerts

Serve as organizational ambassador, including attending meetings of the Greater Boston Choral Consortium, Andover Alliance, others as necessary.

Concert Duties (currently three concerts per year)

  • Contract rehearsal and performance spaces, in conjunction with the artistic director and board.
  • Lead logistical setup for concerts, including stage/riser assembly and breakdown.
  • Arrange for professional audio and possibly video recordings.
  • Handle the printing and member distribution of concert tickets.
  • Prepare contracts for hired professional musicians and pre-concert lecturers
  • Manage the ticket table at all concerts.

The executive director will meet at least annually with the president and artistic director to review the executive director’s performance for the past year and define the responsibilities for the forthcoming season. This review will take place early in the fiscal year to allow for the necessary planning for the next season (fiscal year starts July 1). To facilitate communications, the executive director will attend monthly board meetings via Zoom.
