Job summary

The City of Palm Springs seeks an experienced leader to plan, direct, and manage the City’s economic development, redevelopment, and business programs. This role provides strategic guidance to the City Manager, Mayor, and Council, and collaborates with a broad range of officials and stakeholders.

As an unclassified at-will position, the incumbent will oversee policy development, staffing, and budget for the department, and will engage with community, business leaders, and developers to advance

Qualifications

  • Five years of increasingly responsible economic development experience, including one year of management.
  • Experience in public sector agency is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, public administration, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the economic development strategy for the City; Redevelop and promote business programs.
  • Oversee the Office of Economic Development work plan and staffing levels; monitor efficiency and results.
  • Negotiate and administer contracts and development agreements to ensure fiscal compliance and desired outcomes.
  • Represent the department to officials and outside agencies; coordinate activities with other departments and organizations.
