Job summary

Prime Healthcare is seeking an Executive Director of Clinical Documentation Improvement (ED-CDI) to lead the CDI program across the enterprise from its Ontario, California headquarters.

You will oversee data quality, clinical documentation, and medical coding workflows, mentor managers, partner with physicians and hospital staff, and ensure budget adherence while aligning with corporate strategy and compliance requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine/Surgery with a minimum of 10-years’ experience.
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) and Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) or CDIP credential.
• Strong clinical knowledge across pharma and pathology-physiology.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with physicians and staff.
• Preferred: Master’s Degree in healthcare field and EMR/data analytics knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operations of the CDI department and set strategic direction.
• Oversee data quality, coding accuracy, and compliance across the enterprise.
• Mentor managers and collaborate with medical staff to improve CDI outcomes.
• Manage budgets and coordinate vendor relationships and system upgrades.

Responsibilities

The Executive Director of Clinical Documentation Improvement (ED-CDI) is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department, and leads the strategic direction, driving change and optimizing workflow processes related to the Clinical Documentation Improvement Program across the enterprise. He/She is responsible for aligning departmental strategic planning with the corporate strategy and execution of that plan. The Executive Director of Clinical Documentation Improvement (ED-CDI) maintains high standards for data quality, clinical documentation improvement, medical coding, and compliance. He/She oversees applicable vendors, evaluates system upgrades, and manages technology investment. The Executive Director of Clinical Documentation Improvement (ED-CDI) is responsible for mentoring departmental managers & other subordinates while also collaborating with medical staff & other departments to improve clinical workflow and clinical documentation improvement. He/She maintains operations within budgetary parameters and complies with other duties as assigned while maintaining standards of professional service and ensuring quality cost-effective CDI outcomes.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

Required qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine/Surgery with a minimum of 10-years’ experience
• Must be knowledgeable in Clinical Documentation Improvement processes and its relevance to quality of care
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credential and Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) credential or Clinical Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP) credential
• Strong broad-based clinical knowledge and understanding of Clinical processes, Pharmaceuticals, and Pathology-physiology of disease processes
• Excellent interpersonal skills to build effective partnering relationships with physicians, nurse staff, coding staff and hospital management staff.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in healthcare related field
• Expert knowledge of EMR architecture, data analytics, risk management, and healthcare policy
• Completion of a management or business course.

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $135,491.20 to $280,009.60 on an annualized basis. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
