Qualifications

  • Understanding of juvenile court, child welfare systems, and relevant state statutes.
  • Strong project management: planning, sequencing, timelines, status reporting.
  • Proven fiscal management: budgets, revenue/expenditures, grant compliance.
  • Track record in grants, donor solicitation, events, and major gifts.
  • Experience with advocacy or lobbying for public funding; strong public speaking.
  • Collaboration with a governing Board of Directors.

Responsibilities

Job description

Wisconsin CASA Association is seeking a visionary and strategic Executive Director. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, this leader will oversee day-to-day operations and champion the needs of abused and neglected children by supporting and expanding local CASA programs across the state.

Key Responsibilities
  • Executive Leadership & Board Relations: Partner with the Board of Directors to implement long-range strategic plans and provide regular operational updates.
  • General & Financial Administration: Manage daily operations, hire and evaluate staff, and collaborate with the Board Treasurer to oversee budget development, compliance, tax preparation, and audits.
  • Resource Development: Lead statewide fundraising efforts, including grant writing, direct solicitations, donor relations, and lobbying the Wisconsin Legislature to maintain and increase public funding.
  • Program Support & Expansion: Partner with local CASA programs to provide technical training, drive new program startups, and ensure compliance with Wisconsin child welfare statutes.
  • Public Awareness & Advocacy: Serve as the chief spokesperson for Wisconsin CASA to elevate brand awareness and advocate for public policy initiatives alongside National CASA/GAL and state agencies.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Human Services, Social Work, or a closely related field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Leadership Experience: 5+ years of executive-level management experience, preferably leading a nonprofit, public service organization, or child welfare agency.
  • Child Welfare Knowledge: Understanding of the juvenile court and child welfare systems, family-in-crisis dynamics, and relevant state statutory frameworks
  • Project management capability: Planning, sequencing, holding a timeline, and reporting status without prompting.
  • Financial Acumen: Proven experience in fiscal management, including developing budgets, monitoring revenue/expenditures, and overseeing compliance for public and private grants.
  • Fundraising Success: A track record of resource development, with direct experience in grant writing, individual donor solicitation, event planning, and cultivating major gifts.
  • Advocacy & Public Relations: Success in legislative advocacy or lobbying to secure state/public funding, alongside excellent public speaking and media relations skills.
  • Team & Board Governance: Experience collaborating closely with a governing Board of Directors.
