Job summary

The City of New York’s Mayor’s Office seeks an Executive Agency Counsel to advise on international legal matters and lead drafting of agreements with global partners. You will support leadership with strategic legal analysis and ensure compliance across city government.

This role requires a Juris Doctorate and 5+ years in government, public policy, or international law, with strong writing and negotiation skills. NYC residency is typically required.

Qualifications

• Juris doctorate from an accredited law school.
• 5+ years of relevant professional experience in government/public policy or legal field.
• Experience in international affairs or government counsel preferred.

Responsibilities

• Advise the Commissioner and IA leadership on international legal issues.
• Draft and review MOUs, cooperation agreements, and other legal instruments.
• Ensure IA activities comply with city, state, and federal laws including sanctions and ethics.
• Coordinate with the City’s Law Department on international agreements, visits, and programs.
• Provide clear guidance on regulations affecting diplomatic and municipal activities.
