Job summary

Oregon Health Authority in Salem seeks a seasoned Chief Executive Officer for Oregon State Hospital to lead a complex public healthcare system, strengthen safety, regulatory excellence, and operational performance while advancing behavioral health services.

Reporting to the Director, the CEO will set strategic direction, build an executive team, manage resources, and partner with state agencies and communities to deliver measurable outcomes for patients and staff.

Qualifications

• Significant executive leadership experience in a complex healthcare, behavioral health, public-sector, or similarly regulated environment.
• Proven ability to translate strategy into sustained organizational and operational improvement.
• Strong judgment and the ability to navigate complex issues and competing priorities.
• Experience building high-performing leadership teams and shaping organizational culture.
• Strong executive communication and cross-sector relationship building.
• Commitment to safety, quality, equity, transparency, integrity, and public service.

Responsibilities

• Lead a critical public institution and strengthen Oregon’s behavioral health system.
• Deliver measurable results and improve patient and workforce safety.
• Set direction, lead the executive team, and translate priorities into outcomes.
• Collaborate with state government, labor, regulatory bodies, and communities to achieve goals.
• Provide leadership for Oregon State Hospital and report to the Director of the Oregon Health Authority.
