Job summary

Core Specialty Insurance is offering a 12-week summer internship on our Excess Casualty team in Cincinnati, OH. You will gain real, meaningful work with support from our experienced staff and leadership.

We seek students pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in risk management/insurance, finance, or business who can commit to 40 hours per week. Travel to multiple Core Specialty locations is possible, and you’ll be exposed to senior management and budding careers.

Qualifications

• Actively pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in risk management/insurance, finance, or business.
• Able to work 40 hours per week for 12 weeks.
• Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Proactive, detail-oriented and able to collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

• Gain experience with brokers, vendors, and underwriting team members.
• Prepare accounts for modeling.
• Draft quotes and binders.
• Process endorsements and policy changes.
• Maintain accurate portfolio status in underwriting lifecycle.
• Support internal controls and audit closure.
• Travel to multiple Core Specialty offices.
• Other duties as assigned.

Key Accountabilities/Deliverables:

• As a valued intern on our Excess Casualty team, you will gain experience with and exposure to tasks such as:
• Correspondence with brokers, vendors, underwriting team members
• Preparation of accounts for modeling
• Drafting quotes and binders
• Post-binding account changes/ transactions
• Policy issuance including correspondence to drafting team and broker to ensure policy is issued per binder
• Endorsement processing and issuance
• Accurate and timely status of accounts within systems throughout the underwriting life cycle
• Operation of internal controls and timely closure of Internal Audit
• Other Duties as Assigned

Technical Knowledge and Understanding:

• Proactive and driven to learn.
• Excellent computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Highly organized with attention to detail
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Open to travel to multiple Core Specialty office locations to get a broad view of the company and team
• Able to work easily with cross-functional teams

Experience:

• Must be actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in risk management/insurance, Finance or Business
• Able to work 40 hours per week for 12 weeks
