Job summary

Cardinal Civil Contracting, LLC is a heavy civil and site development contractor based in Charlotte, NC. The role involves operating hydraulic excavators on underground utility projects, backfilling trenches, and coordinating with foremen to maintain line, grade, and safety standards.

This full-time, on-site position requires reading grade stakes, following hand signals, and adhering to OSHA regulations. Some overtime may be required; CDL or heavy equipment certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience operating hydraulic excavators on underground utility or pipeline projects.
• Ability to read grading plans and follow grade stakes and hand signals.
• Familiarity with OSHA safety regulations and trenching/shoring requirements.
• Capable of lifting and moving heavy loads with proper rigging and attachments.
• Reliability and willingness to work overtime as project needs require.

Responsibilities

• Operate hydraulic excavator to backfill trenches behind pipe installations.
• Excavate trenches with correct slope and benching while maintaining safety around trench boxes.
• Load, place, and spread bedding stone and backfill materials per specs.
• Follow grade stakes and hand signals to meet line and grade specifications.
• Assist with manual labor and trench work when not operating equipment.
