Job summary

Humane Society of Missouri is seeking an Assistant Animal Health Technician / Exam Room Assistant for our Adoption Center in St. Louis. You will help animals receive their first point of care, assist with medications and vaccines, and ensure a clean, safe environment.

The role requires at least one year of hands-on animal handling, a high school diploma, and weekend availability, with opportunities to work closely with a dedicated team in a fast-paced shelter setting.

• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.

About the Role:

The exam room is the heart of our shelter, where animals receive their first point of care. As an Assistant Animal Health Technician / Exam Room Assistant, you will play a critical role in ensuring each animal's health and well-being.

• Administering medications and vaccines with precision and care
• Skillfully restraining animals for various medical procedures
• Cleaning and sanitizing cages, runs, floors, and rooms to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.
• Providing basic daily necessities and compassionate care to our furry friends

What We're Looking For:

The ideal candidate will have:

• A high school diploma or equivalent
• At least one year of hands-on animal handling experience, preferably in veterinary or shelter settings
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
• The ability to work well under pressure in emotionally challenging situations
• Availability to work weekends
• Strong internal customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification as a Veterinary Technician or Assistant
• Experience with animal health and wellness exams, including vaccinations and bloodwork
• Familiarity with shelter medicine protocols and procedures
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team
• Compassion and empathy towards animals and their owners
