Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Massachusetts is seeking a housekeeping associate to perform environmental cleaning and maintenance in patient areas, corridors and rooms. The per diem schedule includes 3pm–11:30pm with 16–24 hours per week and every other weekend/holiday rotation.

Responsibilities include loading carts, operating cleaning equipment, disinfecting suites, handling linen and waste, and following infection-control procedures.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Healthcare cleaning experience preferred.
• Equivalent education/experience considered.

Responsibilities

I. Major Responsibilities: Environmental Cleaning and Maintenance

1. 1. Loads service cart with appropriate materials and supplies for assigned area.
2. 2. Operates and cleans various types of cleaning equipment (mechanical and electrical).
3. 3. Cleans operating suites using germicidal cleaning solutions and arranges furniture and equipment.
4. 4. Cleans patient rooms, observing isolation techniques and ensuring a safe, clean environment.
5. 5. Cleans assigned areas including walls, doors, ceilings, fixtures, and windows.
6. 6. Climbs ladders to reach high areas for cleaning, using safety precautions.
7. 7. Collects and/or distributes soiled or clean linen, maintaining linen closet cleanliness.
8. 8. Dust mops, wet mops floors, and vacuums carpets.
9. 9. Maintains floors and baseboards using appropriate cleaning methods.
10. 10. Maintains carpets through regular vacuuming.
11. 11. Collects waste and/or hazardous waste, following infection control policies.
12. 12. Performs any duty assigned by a supervisor to ensure a safe, comfortable, and sanitary environment.

Experience/Skills Required: 1. - Preferred: 1. Previous cleaning experience in a healthcare environment Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions

This position involves frequent standing, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, and performing repetitive movements. It may require climbing and working at heights. The role includes exposure to temperature extremes and requires precise motor skills, vision, and hearing. Lifting, carrying, pulling, and pushing weights up to 100 lbs may be required occasionally to frequently.
