Position Description

The EVS Technician is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in an organization. They perform tasks such as mopping, sweeping, and dusting to ensure areas are clean and safe. They also handle duties like replenishing supplies and disinfecting high‑traffic areas. Their goal is to create a clean and hygienic environment for employees and visitors.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Selects cleaning materials and supplies and prepares solutions according to procedure.
  • Loads service cart and transport to work area.
  • Cleans assigned areas by washing furniture, tiles, fixtures, and equipment with germicidal cleaning solutions.
  • Cleans assigned areas by washing walls, doors, door frames, ceilings, vents, windows, etc.
  • Mops floor areas, vacuums carpets, spot cleans floors and carpets, using appropriate solutions and arranging furniture and equipment back in an orderly fashion after cleaning assigned area.
  • Requests for cleaning supplies and equipment, as needed.
  • Operates various types of cleaning equipment, both mechanical and electrical (i.e., sweepers, scrubbers, vacuums).
  • Cleans equipment and notifies supervisor of equipment needing repair.
  • Reports on safety hazards to manager.
  • Returns unused supplies to the proper place, cleans carts and equipment, and ensures all items are replaced in an orderly manner.
  • Climbs a ladder to hang divider curtains and window drapes or to reach high areas for other cleaning purposes.
  • Collects waste from all areas of facility, sanitizes trash cans and keeps waste disposal area sanitized.
  • Collects hazardous waste in a manner established by the Infection Control Committee. Transports infectious waste into a special closed container to the waste area for sterilization before disposal.
  • Duties as assigned.
  • Cross trained in Laundry.
Physical Requirements
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions
  • Pushing and pulling heavy objects
  • Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients
  • Manual and finger dexterity
  • Hand and eye coordination
  • Standing and walking for extensive periods of time
  • Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Must be proficient in the use of all equipment required for the department.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Must have knowledge of proper housekeeping techniques and procedures.
  • Must know appropriate house cleaning equipment and supplies used to complete assigned duties.
Education/Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Licenses/Certifications
  • Related environmental services experience preferred; in the healthcare setting preferred.
