Job Title: EVS Technician

Department: Environmental Services

Job Summary

The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for executing daily duties required to establish and maintain a safe, hygienic, and aesthetically pleasing care environment. The EVS Tech will contact patients, visitors, and clinical and non-clinical staff. The technician ensures timely room turns and contributes to cleaning, disinfection, infection prevention, and patient experience.

Responsibilities

• Daily occupied/and discharged/transfer cleaning and disinfection of patient care areas, equipment, and common areas.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of health care cleaning and disinfecting principles, safe chemical use, equipment handling, and labor-saving products.
• Adhere to organization safety, risk management, and infection control standards.
• Accurately maintain all appropriate logs, checklists, and sheets.
• Clean and disinfect equipment and areas according to procedures, policies, and manufacturer recommendations.
• Understand cleaning and disinfecting requirements for highly sensitive environments.
• Undergo training in evidence-based recommendations (AHE, APIC, AORN, CDC, Joint Commission, etc.).
• Participate in departmental performance improvement initiatives.
• Stock and restock environmental services cart in neat, orderly fashion.
• Remove waste and transport to appropriate disposal area with proper waste streams.
• Follow all environmental and infection prevention practices, hand hygiene, standard and isolation precautions, and proper PPE donning and doffing.
• Recognize and adhere to HIPAA patient privacy requirements.
• Prioritize duties, handle Stat cleans, and use critical thinking skills.
• Utilize appropriate resources to resolve problems and concerns.
• Operate and maintain all EVS tools and equipment needed.
• Perform specialty tasks (conference room set up, stairwells, elevators, floor care, hanging curtains) as needed.
• Assist in onboarding new Environmental Services Technicians.
• Maintain confidentiality in all patient, hospital, employee, and physician information.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education And Experience

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience in providing cleaning services in a similar environment preferred.

Working Conditions

• Work 4–6 hours standing, walking, moving without sitting.
• Pull, push, bend, lift, carry, push or pull up to 100 lbs with proper body mechanics.
• Sit, bend, crawl, climb, reach, lift or kneel for prolonged periods, often twisting and turning.
• Use hands and/or feet for routine cleaning.
• Exposure to blood, body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions.
• Assemble, use, and maintain all department equipment.
• Environment includes low and high temperatures, loud noises, fumes, and confined areas.
• Use body mechanics for personal safety.
• Follow infection control and standard precautions.
• Participate in Quality Assurance programs, CQI, cross-training, accept assignments to other units/shifts, attend mandatory classes, complete unit-specific competencies.
• Comply with DOH requirements for annual health assessments and required immunizations.

Pay Range

$16.49 – $19.78 per hour.
