Job description

A Millwright Helper assists the journeyman to complete tasks. Lay out, assemble and assist in complex tasks. Helpers learn mathematical functions and know the applications per the designated craft. Ability to properly identify and will receive instruction on the proper and safe use of, hand tools, power tools and equipment, including equipment for rigging and the procedures.

  • Level IV: Competent to complete Journeyman level Millwright tasks with minimal supervision.
Overview of Primary Duties:
  • Assists Journeyman by performing the simpler and more routine duties of the trade.
  • Follow detailed instructions on new work assignments.
  • Closely reviews work while tasks are being learned.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, layout plans, vendor installation and operation manuals, and other schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
  • Assist with the dismantling the machines using hammers, wrenches, crowbars and other hand tools.
  • Assist with moving machinery and equipment using hoists, dollies, rollers and trucks.
  • May assemble and install equipment, such as shafting, conveyors and tram rails, using cranes, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Support the construction of foundations for machines using hand tools and building materials, such as wood, cement, and steel.
  • Assist with aligning machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers and plumb bobs.
  • Be trained with optical and laser alignments.
  • Assembles machines and bolts, welds, rivets or otherwise fastens them to foundation or other structures using hand tools and power tools.
  • May use transit and level for equipment setting.
  • Loads, transports and unloads materials, tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Performs lubricating maintenance, cleaning activities, or repair of tools, machines, and equipment.
  • Able to perform some support tasks with close supervision/direction and support.

  • Other related duties as needed and assigned by Field Supervision.

Qualifications:

Level IV:

  • Thirty-six (36) + months of heavy industrial-related millwright experience
  • Other verified experiences or certifications with millwright experience

Level III:

  • Twenty-four (24) to thirty-five (35) months of heavy industrial-related millwright experience

Level II:

  • Twelve (12) to twenty-three (23) months of heavy industrial-related millwright experience

Level I:

  • Zero (0) to eleven (11) months of heavy industrial-related millwright experience
  • One (1) year of industrial experience

Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation
  • Personal hand tools required for craft as established on the Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List
  • Successful completion of required Safety training to include, but not limited to, Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights

  • All weather conditions at varying temperatures

  • The project site will contain light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment, and tools
  • Ability to hear bells, whistles, and alarms
  • Required to wear safety-approved body harnesses when working at 4’ or above
  • Required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting
  • Ability to talk and hear to communicate
  • Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and move heavy objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision
