Job summary

The Michaels Companies Inc. is seeking an energetic events coordinator for our S.JOS-Westgate store in California. You will plan and deliver children’s parties and craft events, engage guests of all ages, and ensure a fun, creative environment while supporting store operations.

Responsibilities include coordinating multiple events, instructing participants, handling setup and teardown, and maintaining safety and cleanliness standards to meet our Brand Promises.

  • Experience working with children and children's events is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and active listening skills.

Job description

Store - S.JOS-WESTGATE, CA Plan, coordinate, and facilitate events (including kids birthday parties) within a Michaels store to provide a stress-free, fun, and engaging experience for guests. Deliver friendly customer service by helping customers shop at our store and find what they're looking for. Ensure all customers receive a fast and friendly checkout experience. Complete operational tasks including truck unload, merchandise duties, and maintaining store recovery standards as needed to deliver our Brand Promises. Event Coordination Plan and coordinate multiple events at once including children's birthday parties and other craft classes or events. Engage with clients of all ages, from 4 to 94+, by creating an environment of fun and creativity. Demonstrate and instruct party participants in the completion of craft projects, perform face painting and other activities. Facilitate and implement party add-ons such as goody bags, balloons, etc. to company standards. Communicate events with clients and store team members. Complete administrative tasks such as answering emails, making phone calls, and completing paperwork as needed. Adjust plans and events based on client's feedback and needs. Create backup or emergency plans to be executed as needed. Ensure client satisfaction for scheduled events. Uphold the company's cleanliness and safety standards. Set up, break down, and clean before and after each event.

The ability to handle job stress and interact effectively with others, including guests of all ages and co-workers, are essential functions of the job. Must have excellent people skills. Must have experience working with children and children's events. Must have good communication skills including written, verbal, and nonverbal communication as well as listening skills. Must have organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and creative problem-solving skills. Retail and/or customer service experience required

Physical Requirements

Work Environment Ability to remain standing for long periods of time. Ability to move throughout the store. Regular bending, lifting, carrying, reaching, and stretching. Total Base Pay Range for this Position:

$18.45 - $21.40 This position may be eligible for overtime compensation in accordance with state and local laws.
