Job Description

The Convention Services Manager is responsible for achieving assigned convention/event goals linked to the hotel’s overall performance. The role involves servicing clients/groups, maintaining contracted food and beverage minimums, and collaborating with the Director of Sales or Director of Catering/Convention Services to meet revenue, client satisfaction, and food and beverage objectives for one or more properties.

Job Duties & Functions

  • Attain meeting planner satisfaction scores, revenue, and food and beverage goals.
  • Conduct solicitation calls, tours, and entertain clients based on property needs.
  • Monitor market segment trends.
  • Maintain a friendly, courteous, and service-oriented approach with guests and employees.
  • Follow company standards, catering/meeting standards, and sales metrics.
  • Understand hotel operations and policies.
  • Deliver banquet event orders timely (within 10 days) and accurately.
  • Communicate changes promptly to relevant departments.
  • Maintain visibility in the local community and industry groups.
  • Assist with or participate in promotional activities like sales blitzes.
  • Attend meetings and other functions as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Requirements: Education & Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent; experience in convention/event and catering sales preferred.
  • Knowledge of food, beverage, and events; creativity appreciated.
  • Valid driver’s license for the applicable state.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for negotiation and influence.
  • Experience with professional selling techniques: opening, probing, supporting, closing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and possess strong organizational skills.
