Job summary

Newport Aquarium is seeking a part-time bartender to deliver world-class service during live events. You will greet guests, pour and mix drinks according to requests, and coordinate with the Events Management Team to ensure smooth operations.

This role requires strong public speaking, customer service experience, and the ability to stay composed in high‑volume settings. Bar safety, inventory, and knowledge of safety protocols are part of the job.

Qualifications

• Strong public speaking skills and customer service experience.
• Serv-Safe training or concurrent bartending training is a plus.
• Newport City Bartending License is a plus.
• Ability to think on your feet and maintain show integrity during high-stress, high-volume events.
• Willingness to take direction and coaching from experienced staff to improve skills and guest experience.
• Must read, write, and speak English.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team and independently with minimal supervision.
• Able to work in a fast-paced job while remaining courteous and helpful to guests and cast.
• Able to work a flexible schedule, including weekday evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• On-demand position with no guarantee of weekly hours.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers with world-class service.
• Accurately pour and mix drinks based on requests and inventory.
• Respond to direction from the Events Management Team.
• Recognize intoxication levels and apply safety training to prevent over-consumption.
• Maintain a safe work environment at all times.
• Set up bar according to Event Management Team instructions.
• Prepare and restock bar supplies (dry goods, glassware, juices, sodas, garnishes).
• Maintain cleanliness of bar equipment and devices.
• Collect money and give accurate change; balance cash at event end.
• Complete open and closing inventory or consumption sheets.
• Follow the work schedule and event-specific instructions.
• Set up the bar area in a timely manner.
• Pour and dispense alcoholic beverages to guests of legal age.
• Maintain security of bar supplies and inventory.
• Learn and adhere to HFE Core Values, guest service standards, policies, safety protocols.
