Job summary

SGMC Health is seeking a Processing Technician for the Sterile Processing department at the Main Campus. The role includes decontamination, sterilization, assembling case carts, and prepping specialty trays for surgeries across hospital areas.

You will join a multi-disciplinary team, follow infection control procedures, and maintain instrument readiness while supporting patient safety. Evening shift, full-time with on-call responsibilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• CSPT certification encouraged after twelve months of full time employment performing SPT activities.
• One year experience preferred demonstrating dependability, reliability, and customer service skills.
• OR experience preferred to include processing surgical instruments.
• Ability to read, write, perform simple mathematical calculations, and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Basic knowledge of infection prevention, asepsis, and sterility.
• Strong communication with team, physicians, and hospital personnel.
• Ability to think critically, prioritize multiple tasks, and work under stress.
• Knowledge of OR instruments and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in meeting age-specific patient needs in instrument handling and central sterilization.
• Perform decontamination, processing and sterilization procedures per Infection Control policy.
• Assemble, maintain, and ensure functionality of surgical instruments.
• Prepare case carts for surgical procedures and specialty trays for departments.
• Adhere to departmental and hospital policies, PI initiatives, and patient safety standards.
