Job summary

Essentia Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the team at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN. The role involves pre- and post-analytical support, specimen collection, and basic lab testing with a focus on patient safety.

Qualifications

• Graduate from Medical Laboratory Assistant Program.
• OR completes an internal Medical Laboratory Assistant training program within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform tasks to support pre- and post-analytical functions.
• Promote patient safety during specimen collection and processing.
• Perform waived lab testing per accreditation and licensure requirements.
• Collect specimens via venipuncture or capillary puncture and other specimens.
• Process and handle specimens per testing requirements to support clinical lab testing.
• Perform laboratory testing when applicable.
• Participate in training of new employees, students, and staff.
• Follow Essentia Health policies to ensure safety and quality.
