The Valley Shore YMCA is seeking a friendly Custodian Housekeeper (Evenings) to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for members, staff, and guests. Responsibilities include cleaning, sanitizing, room setup, groundskeeping, and assisting with events while following YMCA policies.

About the RoleThe Valley Shore YMCA is seeking a friendly, reliable, and service-oriented Custodian Housekeeping (Evenings) to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment throughout the Valley Shore YMCA. Responsibilities include cleaning and sanitizing facilities, setting up rooms, maintaining indoor and outdoor areas, supporting facility operations, and performing seasonal tasks such as groundskeeping and snow removal as needed. Enjoy free Valley Shore YMCA membership, training opportunities, and flexible hours while making a difference in your community.What You’ll DoMaintains a clean, safe, and welcoming environment by completing assigned cleaning and maintenance tasks according to established schedules and standards throughout the facility and surrounding grounds.Ensures custodial and facility supplies are adequately stocked, including replenishing soap, paper towels, cleaning products, and other necessary materials.Safely operates and maintains assigned motorized and non-motorized custodial equipment in accordance with YMCA policies and manufacturer guidelines.Identifies, documents, and reports maintenance needs, safety concerns, and repair requests promptly, performing minor repairs when authorized.Helps ensure the security of the YMCA facility and property by conducting routine inspections and verifying that designated areas are properly secured during and at the conclusion of each shift.Follows all YMCA safety policies and procedures, remains alert to potential hazards, takes appropriate action to prevent accidents, and promptly reports incidents, unsafe conditions, and injuries to a supervisor.Assists with room setups, furniture arrangements, and facility preparations to support programs, meetings, and special events.Build positive, professional relationships with members, participants, volunteers, staff, and colleagues while representing the YMCA's mission and core values and maintains required certifications (if applicable) and attends all required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.Perform other related duties and special projects assigned.What We’re Looking ForEducation: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.Skills and Experience:Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect and communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups across all social and economic backgrounds.Six (6) months or more of custodial, housekeeping, facilities maintenance, or related experience preferred.Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions, safety procedures, and operational guidelines.Ability to identify, document, and communicate maintenance needs and facility repair requests accurately.Working knowledge of custodial cleaning methods, equipment, and best practices.Basic knowledge of the proper operation, care, and maintenance of custodial tools and equipment.Knowledge of cleaning products, chemicals, and disinfectants, including their safe handling, storage, and proper use.Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.Strong attention to detail with a commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming facility.Ability to build positive working relationships and communicate effectively with members, participants, volunteers, and staff from diverse backgrounds and all social and economic segments of the community.Understanding of inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).Work SchedulePart-time, flexible hours available (Includes Weekends and Evenings).Ideal for individuals seeking meaningful part-time work in facilities maintenance who take pride in creating a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.Incentives & PerksFree Valley Shore YMCA Membership (includes access to all fitness facilities).Discounted family memberships and certain program fees (childcare, swim lessons, camps, etc.).Eligible for tuition discounts at selected colleges.Flexible scheduling to fit school, family, or other work commitments.Paid training and CPR/AED certification assistance.Opportunities for advancement into Wellness, Aquatics, or Youth Program departments.Supportive, community-oriented work environment that values wellness and personal growth.Why Work at the Valley Shore YMCA?At the Valley Shore YMCA, we believe work should be more than a job — it should be meaningful.
