Job summary

MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center in Des Moines, IA, is seeking a Certified Pharmacy Tech for the evening shift (2:00 PM–10:30 PM) to support pharmaceutical care under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The role involves preparing medication orders, delivering medications and IV admixtures, stocking supplies, and assisting with audits and workflow.

Qualifications

• Must be nationally certified as a pharmacy technician (PTCB) or equivalent.
• Iowa Board of Pharmacy registration required at time of hire.
• High School Diploma or GED with national certification.
• Completion of Mandatory Reporter training within three months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Prepares medication orders.
• Delivers medications and IV admixtures to patient rooms, critical care areas, and other ancillary areas.
• Restocks automated medication dispensing machines.
• Assists pharmacists with audits and completes unit inspections.
• Restocks carts and crash carts; completes check in/out process.
• Communicates stock utilization and ordering needs.
• Compounds and labels extemporaneous liquid and solid products.
• Prepares IV admixtures including TPNs, chemotherapy IVs, IV piggybacks, and syringes.
• Provides training and mentoring to new employees and assists in directing workflow.
• Other duties as needed by the manager.
