Job summary

Patrick & Henry Community College is seeking a part-time Security Officer I to patrol and protect the Martinsville campus, with evening hours and shifts that may vary to meet class needs. Qualifications

• Education, training, and/or work experience equivalent to a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Basic knowledge of PC skills, email, and record keeping
• Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Virginia driver’s license, as well as basic first aid, adult and child CPR/AED.
• Ability to exercise discretion in the use of authority.
• Strong interpersonal skills. Communicates effectively orally and in writing; works with individuals of diverse backgrounds; and establishes positive working relationships with external and internal constituents.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and procedures.
• Ability to use fair and reasonable judgment in decision making. Ability to act/react calmly and appropriately in emergency situations.
• Ability to work varied rotating shifts while carrying equipment and performing foot and vehicle patrols.
• Available to work evening hours

Responsibilities

• Ensure campus security and official presence.
• Conduct periodic security checks for entry, damage, fire, and utilities.
• Provide extra patrols on foot and in the security vehicle.
• Complete written reports of events.
• Lock/unlock doors per schedule.
• Monitor visitors and crowds to prevent vandalism, theft, and misconduct.
• Inspect premises for unauthorized persons and hazards.
• Report emergencies and seek assistance when needed.
• Assist with scheduling college vehicles and mail/logistics.
