Job summary

Axiom Space seeks an energetic EVA Principal Systems Engineer to lead major testing campaigns for the AxEVA System. This onsite role at Axiom in Webster, Texas, reports to the EVA Systems Engineering and Integration Manager.

Responsibilities include end-to-end systems engineering for EVA systems, development of operation concepts, MBSE modeling in Cameo, and integration with Jama requirements. Strong communication skills and startup-minded flexibility are valued.

Qualifications

  • Lead end-to-end systems engineering for EVA systems, including suits, flight support, training and ground equipment.
  • Develop concept of operations, requirements, and interfaces; manage procurement specifications and traceability.
  • Create and maintain MBSE system model (Cameo) and integrate with Jama for requirements management.
  • Support verification and validation planning and execution for EVA requirements.

POSITION SUMMARY

We are looking for an energetic and dynamic EVA Principal Systems Engineer who will primarily be responsible for leading major testing campaigns for the AxEVA System. This position reports to EVA Systems Engineering and Integration Manager. This role is onsite at Axiom in Webster, Texas.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and responsibilities may include task from one or all of these responsibility areas:

  • End-to-end, cradle-to-grave Systems Engineering for Axiom EVA Systems, including Suits, Flight Support Equipment, Training Equipment, Ground Equipment, and EVA Tools.
  • Responsible for Axiom EVA Systems conception, including 1) concept of operations, functions, and interfaces, 2) subsystem‑level requirements, 3) procurement specifications, including synthesis, traceability, derivation, stakeholder needs, impact assessments, and requirements maintenance and updates.
  • Responsible for creation of EVA Systems Model in an MBSE environment (Cameo), including top level functions, architecture, and interfaces, and decomposed down to component level functions, architecture and interfaces.
  • Responsible for integration of system model into Jama requirements management system to enable full requirement to design traceability.
  • Responsible for implementation of trade study comparing alternative solutions to provide improved communications capabilities, including internal avionics architectures as well as external suit updates for antennas.
  • Responsible for support to definition, planning, coordination and closure for verification and validation of EVA requirements.
  • Creation and management of Axiom EVA system product breakdown structures and architecture definition.
  • Support Axiom EVA Systems development by providing down‑and‑in system and subsystem‑level support and information, including change impacts to/from other areas of the AxEVA System.
  • Define and maintain System and Subsystem integrated performance assessments.
  • Perform other systems engineering tasks as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering (aerospace, electrical, mechanical, or related discipline).
  • A minimum of 6+ years systems engineering experience including activities across the lifecycle (e.g., concepts, requirements, design support, integration, V&V) equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience using Cameo or similar tools for creation, analysis, and application of System Models to address systems development trades and architecture development.
  • Experience with communications systems including UHF, WiFi, and cellular/5G.
  • Experience with NASA human spaceflight programs, with related experience in the testing of spacecraft, spacesuits, space vehicles.
  • Experience with Space Suits is preferred.
  • A strong attention to detail while appreciating the bigger picture of complex and ambitious projects.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills with experience communicating to senior decision‑makers and technical audiences.
  • Experience in Start‑up organizations a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task. May involve support of 24/7 test operations at test facilities.

REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation. Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised. Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position. Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet critical project milestones.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
