Job description

Summary

The position of a Pipefitter-Lead is responsible for the day-to-day mechanical activities performed in clients’ facilities. The Pipefitter-Lead will perform mechanical work, guide work toward project goals of Safety, Quality, Productivity and Service, maximize the quality of the Company while meeting client expectations, and maintain a safe working environment in accordance with Company policies and procedures.

Essential Functions
  • Lay out, fabricate, assemble, install and maintain piping and piping systems, fixtures and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling and industrial processing systems based on knowledge of system operation and study of building plans or working drawings.
  • Inspect, examine and test installed systems and pipelines using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.
  • Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair according to specifications.
  • Measure and mark pipes for cutting and threading.
  • Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment according to specifications by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, and threading joints.
  • Cut, thread and hammer pipe to specifications using tools such as saws, cutting torches, pipe threaders and benders.
  • Identify, recognize, and demonstrate safe usage of power tools appropriate for the job.
  • Recognize various materials used in piping systems and demonstrate a working knowledge of appropriate material handling techniques.
  • Select and safely use appropriate equipment which may include, but not limited to, manlifts, forklifts and company trucks.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills in safe rigging practices.
  • Identify, explain, and perform crane hand signals.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills to properly use oxyacetylene flame cutting equipment.
  • Demonstrate ability to accurately perform field measurements and sketches.
  • Demonstrate skills necessary to perform job functions, blinding, tray repairs, tray modifications, bolt torque, etc.
  • Maintain poise and focus under time constraint and adverse conditions.
  • Attend and complete trainings as required by the Company and client.
  • Pass all required drug/alcohol testing and background requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility

This position will have some supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a petrochemical/refinery environment, with exposure to cold working conditions during winter months and hot working conditions during summer months. Exposure to noise requires wearing protecting hearing equipment or frequently shouting to be heard above ambient noise. In emergency situations, exposure to hazardous chemicals may occur and a respirator is required. The employee must be fit tested for the various respirators used and able to pass a pulmonary function test (PFT).

Physical Demands

The physical demands include bending, stooping, walking, climbing, squatting, reaching, kneeling, pushing/pulling, standing, sitting, manual handling, frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds and occasionally more, working in confined spaces, working at heights, climbing ladders, handling heavy objects, operating foot controls, and maintaining balance on uneven surfaces. The job requires strong foot agility, hand strength, dexterity, and visual and auditory acuity.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

This is a project‑based position. Typical days and hours of work are variable and project dependent. Overtime work is common and may be required.

Travel

Travel is expected. Extensive travel throughout the U.S. and overnight stays for extended periods of time.

Required Education And Experience

High school diploma or equivalent work experience and 4–5 years’ prior work experience in a related industry. Knowledge of all QA/QC requirements for blinds and mechanical work. Working knowledge of setting up and operating all company‑owned equipment such as hand tools, power tools, hydraulic torque tools, and their required maintenance and inspection requirements. Strong math and science skills.

Preferred Education And Experience

5+ years’ experience in a related industry. TWIC, NCCER certification, Basic Plus training, Confined Space training, OSHA 10/30, First Aid and CPR trained, Class “A” driver’s license, and a clean MVR.
