Job summary

Schwab Technology Services is seeking a senior QA engineer to lead quality efforts across data engineering initiatives. You will define test strategies, drive automation, and partner with Product Owners and development teams from planning through release.

The role emphasizes data warehouse ETL testing (IICS/PowerCenter), cloud tech (GCP), and strong SQL/data validation. Hybrid work and advanced benefits are offered.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience, incl. 8+ years as a Quality Engineer for data warehouse and ETL projects.
  • Experience with large-scale data engineering initiatives.
  • Hands-on testing of data warehouse ETL apps using IICS or PowerCenter.
  • Cloud tech experience, preferably GCP.
  • Python scripting experience.
  • Strong SQL for data validation and analysis.
  • Unix environments and shell scripting.
  • DevOps concepts and CI/CD tools (Bamboo, Bitbucket, GitHub, GitHub Actions).
  • Experience implementing testing strategies (manual + automated).
  • Root cause analysis and defect diagnosis expertise.
  • Automation in data warehouse environments.
  • Agile tools experience (Jira or Rally).
  • SDLC knowledge; cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Fast-paced autonomy with competing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in PI planning and review requirements to provide feedback.
  • Estimate, prioritize, and coordinate testing across a portfolio.
  • Plan and manage release testing across initiatives.
  • Define and update test strategies for new development and defects.
  • Collaborate with QA team to create detailed test plans and cases.
  • Maintain a robust test scenario library.
  • Lead functional testing and regression testing for releases.
  • Document, track, and triage defects; ensure timely resolution.
  • Design, develop, and execute test automation scripts.
  • Identify risks and manage release scope and quality.
  • Monitor UAT and production defect leakage; prioritize UAT defects.
  • Communicate testing progress and results to stakeholders; QA sign-off.
  • Serve as SME for QA automation tools and guidance.

Join a high-impact QA organization where you will lead quality engineering efforts across a portfolio of data engineering initiatives. In this role, you will partner closely with Product Owners and development teams from PI planning through release to ensure high-quality deliverables. You will define and execute test strategies, oversee testing cycles, and drive continuous quality improvements through automation. This is an opportunity to influence product quality at scale while serving as a subject matter expert in test automation and quality engineering best practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in PI planning and review requirements and technical design documents to provide timely, meaningful feedback to Product Owners and development teams
  • Estimate, prioritize, plan, and coordinate testing activities across an assigned portfolio
  • Plan and manage release testing cycles and timelines across multiple initiatives
  • Define, maintain, and update test strategies for new development, enhancements, and defect fixes
  • Review high-level test scenarios and collaborate with QA team members (including offshore teams) to create detailed, comprehensive, and well-structured test plans and test cases
  • Ensure the creation and maintenance of a robust test scenario library
  • Lead the execution of functional testing for new and enhanced features, as well as regression testing for defect resolution
  • Identify, document, track, and triage defects; ensure timely resolution and closure
  • Design, develop, and execute test automation scripts
  • Identify and manage risks and resolve issues impacting release scope, schedule, and quality
  • Monitor UAT and production defect leakage; ensure validation and prioritization of UAT defects without impacting critical timelines
  • Communicate testing progress, results, and risks to stakeholders; provide QA sign-off
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for QA automation tools, providing consultation and guidance to development teams
What you have

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of overall experience, including at least 8 years as a Quality Engineer supporting data warehouse and ETL projects
  • Experience working on large-scale data engineering initiatives
  • Hands-on experience testing data warehouse ETL applications, specifically using IICS or PowerCenter
  • Experience with cloud technologies, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Experience with Python scripting
  • Strong proficiency in SQL for data validation, data flow testing, and data analysis
  • Experience working in Unix environments, including basic shell scripting
  • Strong understanding of DevOps concepts with hands-on experience using CI/CD tools such as Bamboo, Bitbucket, GitHub, and GitHub Actions
  • Experience implementing and improving testing strategies, including both manual and automated approaches
  • Expertise in root cause analysis and defect diagnosis
  • Experience implementing test automation within data warehouse environments
  • Experience working in Agile frameworks using tools such as Jira or Rally
  • Advanced knowledge of the software development lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams to achieve shared objectives
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and strict deadlines
  • Ability to clearly summarize and present testing results to stakeholders
  • Strong customer service mindset with the ability to build relationships across the organization
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel (macros), Word, and related applications
  • Experience working with Control-M
  • Performance testing experience, including tools such as JMeter, AppDynamics, or similar
