Job summary

Avery Dennison is seeking an ETL Developer III to design, develop, test, and optimize complex data pipelines for high-volume retail data in a hybrid remote environment.

The role requires senior-level expertise in data architecture, integration, and database development, with a focus on cost-efficient cloud-based ETL solutions and CI/CD practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 6+ years of relevant IT experience in ETL development and data integration.
• Expertise in database architectures, complex SQL development, and schema design.
• Hands-on experience with enterprise ETL tools, automated workflow orchestrators, batch and streaming processing.
• Proficient in Python, SQL Notebooks, and automated Databricks pipelines.
• Strong problem-solving and ability to communicate technical concepts to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, specification, development, and maintenance of robust ETL processes, data integration workflows, and data pipelines for high-volume retail and CPG data streams.
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot malfunctions, perform root cause analysis, and optimize queries and data flows.
• Collaborate with Platform, Cloud, Data Engineering, and QA teams to translate requirements into production-ready data pipelines.
• Design physical schemas, maintain data dictionaries and ER diagrams to protect data integrity and security.
• Establish CI/CD patterns, data quality controls, and recovery procedures in compliance with SOX 404.

Job Description

The ETL Developer III is a senior-level technical expert responsible for designing, developing, testing, and optimizing complex Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) data pipelines to support company data-integrated shelf-edge technology solutions. Operating with minimal supervision in a complex environment, this role serves as a subject matter expert in data architecture, integration, and database development. The ETL Developer III collaborates closely with cross-functional teams across Platform, Cloud, Data Engineering, and Quality Assurance to ensure data integrity, high performance, and continuous integration/delivery across large-scale retail systems. This role requires understanding of cloud computing models and optimization methods for maximizing process efficiency and cost while integrating seamlessly with existing systems within the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

• Operating in a hybrid remote work environment, lead the design, specification, development, and maintenance of robust ETL processes, data integration workflows, and data pipelines for high-volume retail and CPG data streams.

• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot malfunctions, execute root cause analysis, and perform code, query, and database optimizations to ensure optimal, cost-effective data flows.

• Partner with Platform, Cloud, Data Engineering, and QA teams to translate complex business requirements into scalable, production-ready data pipelines and integration modules.

• Conduct data modeling studies, design physical schemas, and maintain data dictionaries and entity-relationship diagrams to protect data integrity, security, and enterprise standards.

• Establish software engineering best practices, automated data quality controls, CI/CD patterns, reusable workflow standards, and maintain data recovery procedures in strict compliance with internal policies and SOX Section 404 requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

• 6+ years of relevant IT experience in ETL development, data integration, and database administration.

• Recognized expertise and thorough knowledge of database architectures, complex SQL development, query performance tuning, and schema design.

• Deep hands-on experience with enterprise ETL tools, automated workflow orchestrators, batch and streaming data processing, and expertise in Python, SQL Notebooks, and automated Databricks pipelines.

• Demonstrated ability to solve unique and complex technical problems independently, communicate technical concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders, and deliver project initiatives on schedule.

Additional Information

The salary range for this position is $96,075 - $143,472 / year.The hiring base salary range above represents what Avery Dennison reasonably expects to pay for this position as of the date of this posting. Actual salaries will vary within the range, and in some circumstances may be above or below the range, based on various factors including but not limited to a candidate’s relevant skills, experience, education and training, and location, as well as the job scope and complexity, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel required for the position, which may change depending on the candidate pool.
