Job summary

Harlan Electric Company is seeking an Estimator or Associate Estimator to join our growing team in the United States. The role focuses on estimating projects in transmission and distribution, utility, or commercial electrical markets.

A comprehensive training program is offered for Associate Estimator applicants. Responsibilities include coordinating RFIs, performing take-offs, obtaining quotes, and leading bid reviews.

Qualifications

• Ability to understand, and/or possess basic knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time/cost/labor estimates for projects and services
• High school diploma or GED is required

Responsibilities

• Abide by estimating process
• Work with Estimating Coordinator to upload project documents to ShareFile
• Review contract documents for pricing accuracy
• Submit RFIs for estimating questions by deadline
• Perform take-off and material take-off where applicable
• Obtain vendor and subcontractor quotes and evaluate for best price
• Distribute qualification documents for bid (MBE, WBE, experience, key individuals)
• Participate in estimate review with stakeholders and lead discussions
• Prepare input for customer deliverables (schedule, proposal letter)
• Prepare award documents for review by deadline
• Identify milestones and LDs and relay to PM/Regional Director
• Identify potential change orders and relay to PM
• Review PO, subcontracts, and contracts for accuracy
• Facilitate scope reviews with PM and assist in cost estimate handoff
• Participate in KOM to hand off project to PM

The Harlan Electric team is growing! We’re looking to add an Estimator or Associate Estimator to our team.

Ideal candidates for the Estimator role will have experience estimating projects in transmission & distribution, utility, or commercial electrical markets.

We also welcome Associate Estimator applicants. If selected, you’ll participate in our comprehensive training program designed to build the technical knowledge and estimating skills needed for a successful career with Harlan Electric.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Abide by estimating process
• Work with the Estimating Coordinator to upload project documents to ShareFile for vendors/subcontractors
• Review all contract documents to become familiar with project requirements and obligations under the contract and apply to pricing (schedule, specifications, drawings, safety manual, etc.), reviewing documents for accuracy and consistency
• Work with the Estimating Coordinator to submit RFIs for estimating questions by deadline.
• Perform take-off and material take-off where applicable
• Obtain vendor and subcontractor quotes and evaluate for completeness and best price for use in bid.
• Distribute qualification documents as required for the bid (MBE, WBE, experience, key individuals, etc.)
• Participate in the estimate review process with internal and external stakeholders. Setup all corporate reviews and lead discussion
• Prepare and/or provide input for customer required deliverables (schedule, proposal letter, etc.)
• Prepare award documents for review to be submitted by the deadline
• Identify areas of importance (milestones, LDs, etc.) of a project and relay to PM and/or Regional Director
• Identify possible change orders and relay to PM
• Review purchase orders, subcontracts, and contracts for accuracy
• Facilitate a scope review with the PM; assist construction personnel in understanding basis and approach to the cost estimate
• Participate in KOM to handoff project to project management

CORE COMPETENCIES

• Strong communication, organization, analytical, leadership and relationship skills
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
• Ability to prepare construction schedules in Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure
• Self- starter able to work with minimal supervision

• Salary
  • Commensurate with experience, paid weekly. MYR Group reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
