Job summary

Aecon Utilities seeks an experienced Transmission Estimator to accurately price labour, equipment, materials, and subcontracts for transmission projects. You will prepare detailed estimates, review drawings, and collaborate with Operations, PMO and Owners to ensure competitive tenders.

You will drive cost control, maintain estimating data systems, and support field teams with technical guidance while upholding Aecon’s Safety Always culture.

Qualifications

  • Diploma / Degree in Civil / Construction / Electrical / Business
  • Minimum 7–10 years experience estimating/operational experience in Transmission Hydro Infrastructure
  • Understanding of affiliated electrical systems is an asset
  • Proven ability to read and interpret construction drawings and contract documents
  • Strong knowledge of job cost fundamentals and accounting/reporting
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Proactive in inclusive practices and collaboration

Responsibilities

  • Shared accountability for the overall financial performance of projects.
  • Analyzes documents, specifications, proposals and addendums for pricing.
  • Performs estimate-related communications with clients (oral/written).
  • Review project site prior to price preparation.
  • Collaborates with Operations, PMO and Owners staff.
  • Obtains input from Operations staff.
  • Performs quantity take-offs from construction drawings.
  • Obtains pricing from suppliers/subcontractors and incorporates into the estimate.
  • Formulates all costs for tender submissions (labour, equipment, material, rentals, subcontracts).
  • Ensures accuracy and completeness of tender submissions.
  • Oversees distribution of documentation post-award.
  • Manages scope change pricing as required.
  • Maintains estimating files and data systems.
  • Provides technical support to field staff.
  • Drives estimating process and risk management compliance.
  • Conducts bid handover meetings.
  • Assists with Prequalification, RFQ’s and RFI submissions.
  • Travels as required; valid driver's license.
  • Promotes inclusion and diversity.

Reporting to the Estimating Manager, the Estimator (Transmission) will be responsible for accurately estimating the cost of labour, equipment and materials for supply and installation, as well as accountability for the direction, preparation and documentation of work completion estimates for Transmission construction projects.

This is an evergreen posting, qualifies candidates will be contacted as new work is awarded.

What You’ll Do Here

  • Reviewing project site prior to price preparation.

  • Manages Scope Change pricing as required.
  • Maintains files and correspondence on active and completed projects.
  • Provide technical support to field staff as appropriate.
  • Drives Estimating process / procedure compliance and consistency.
  • Conducts Bid Handover meetings as required.
  • Assists with Prequalification, RFQ’s and RFI submissions as required.
  • Incorporates / complies with Aecon’s risk management policies and procedures.
  • Drives positive relationships with Clients, Consultants, and key Subcontractors.
  • Protects all forms of proprietary information.
  • Maintains Estimating data systems, to ensure they are kept up to date.
  • Assists in the training of new Estimating staff as appropriate.
  • Repetitive movement (data entry).
  • Able to perform in a fast-paced environment.

What You Bring To The Team
  • Diploma / Degree –Civil / Construction / Elect rical / Business
  • Minimum 7 -10 years experience Estimating / Operational experience in Transmission Hydro Infrastructure
  • Understanding of affiliated electrical systems an asset.
  • Construction site experience considered an asset
  • Skills allow for working independently with little supervision
  • Prior operational experience an asset.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and contract documents.
  • Thorough knowledge of contract language / Terms and Conditions / Bonding etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of associated Trades labour agreements / working rules
  • Good knowledge of job cost fundamentals and accounting / reporting.
  • Self motivated with excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills – MS Excel / Word / Project and estimating software
  • Strong communication skills – oral and written.
  • Ability to work accurately, effectively under pressure.
  • Adaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with others as a team.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
  • Professional designation an asset (ex Professional Engineer)
