Job summary

Michels Utility Services, Inc. is seeking an Estimator to evaluate bid specifications and drawings for underground utility projects across power, gas, and communications.

You will verify bid elements, coordinate with subcontractors, and work with Project Management to monitor bids and budgets. Qualified candidates hold a Bachelor's in Construction Management or Engineering with 3–5 years of related experience, can travel up to 25%, and have strong Excel and MS Office skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering with 3–5 years of related experience.
  • Estimating experience or exposure to the utility industry.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate bid specifications and drawings to ensure complete bids.
  • Follow up with subcontractors to obtain bids.
  • Coordinate with Project Management teams to monitor bids and budgets.
  • Produce highly accurate work with strong attention to detail.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Location: East Coast Region | Full-time | 25% Travel Required

Position Summary

As an Estimator, your key responsibilities will be to evaluate bid specifications and drawings, ensuring that we know everything required to successfully bid and win the project. Follow-up with subcontractors to ensure that bids are received, and work with the Project Management teams to follow-up on bids and budgets to close the business. Critical for success are the abilities to produce highly accurate work in a timely manner, maintain strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Communication skills, both oral and written, are a must. A strong understanding and being comfortable working with numbers has been a key success to this role.

What It Takes
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering and 3-5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of both
  • Estimating experience or exposure to the utility industry
  • Must possess a valid driver license for the type(s) of vehicles which may be driven and an acceptable driving record
  • Solid Microsoft Office experience, with advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time
