Job summary

Gerber Collision & Glass in Alpharetta, GA is seeking an Estimator in Training to learn diagnosing and preparing repair estimates in line with insurer expectations and company guidelines. You will also work to communicate value to achieve a high close rate.

The role involves mapping damage with customers, taking photos, building a parts list, updating customers, coordinating with production, and supporting insurance claims processes.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Prior customer service experience.
  • Must complete 16 I-CAR units within first 12 months.
  • Preferred: 4-6 years related work experience; photo-imaging software experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet customer at repair drop off and build rapport.
  • Map damage with customer and identify WOW opportunities.
  • Take initial photographs and upload photos/notes to CCC One.
  • Notify production of arrival and place in production queue.
  • Finalize estimate using Repair Planning Template.
  • Coordinate with repair team on windshield notations and parts list.
  • Set promise date and review estimate with customer.
  • Update customer regularly per management standards.
  • Assist insurance adjusters with damage reports and re-inspections.

Job Description

The Estimator in Training works closely with our Estimator to learn how to effectively diagnose and prepare all estimates for repair in an accurate, thorough, and profitable manner according to insurance partner and company guidelines. Additionally, the Estimator Apprentice is responsible for communicating the value Gerber provides, resulting in a high closed sales ratio.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure consistent execution of WOW (Wow Operating Way) plan.
  • Greets customer at repair drop off and builds rapport.
  • Maps damage with customer (previous, current loss, WOW opportunities).
  • Handles repair mapping, takes initial photographs. Uploads photos and notes to CCC One, along with arrival time, etc.
  • Notifies production that vehicle has arrived and places in production queue. Verifies estimate during teardown.
  • Finalizes estimate using proper Repair Planning Template.
  • Works with repair team to make sure notations on windshield are correct and complete. Puts together final parts list.
  • Uses Promise Date Calculator to set promise date. Calls customer to review estimate and promise date.
  • Updates customer regularly according to standards determined by management.
  • Participates in and contributes to the regularly scheduled production meetings.
  • Calls customers whose cars will be completed the next day. Schedules with customer.
  • Follow up with technicians after vehicle tear down and make adjustments to estimate if needed.
  • Assist insurance adjusters with damage reports, etc., and provide service to insurance claim re-inspectors.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Prior customer service experience.
  • Must currently possess or successfully complete 16 I-CAR units within the first 12 months of employment.
  • Preferred: 4-6 years related work experience. Photo‑imaging software experience preferred.
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Computer literate. Knowledge of Microsoft products preferred.
  • Good decision‑making ability and sound judgment.
Other Requirements
  • Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, kneel and crouch while providing an accurate estimate.
  • Must possess clear vision.

Compensation

$18 – $26 / Hour. Compensation is commensurate with skill, education and experience. Supplemental Pay: This position may also be eligible for bonus opportunities tied to individual or business initiatives.
