The Estimator III will prepare Regular Production cost estimates for projects based on customer supplied takeoffs as a basis for pricing quotations. This role may involve pricing from Architectural Plans and Specifications, as well as functioning as a lead Estimator; either of which depends on experience, knowledge, ability and the Estimator's assigned department's needs. Work involves diversity of products of complex design where application of established estimating practices is more difficult, and scope is diverse. The Estimator would be considered a subject matter expert on product lines being priced. Position requires a technical knowledge of manufacturing practices, material identifiers and cost estimating procedures.
Provide training and support workload decision making of Estimating I and II associates in all aspects of the estimating process. Acts as a technical resource across the organization. Evaluates customer request for proposal (RFP) and request for quotation (RFQ) with ability to interpret shop drawings, including the identification of custom extrusion, the need for possible reinforcement and possible performance test requirements (thermal, structural, impact, etc). Based on experience, the ability to evaluate and interpret Architectural Plans and Division 8 Specifications for the same criteria. Creates formal quote/bid and related documents. Prices or assist in pricing complex, high value or high-risk projects. May take the lead for Estimating for strategic projects/accounts or large volume customers. Assist with assessing cost effectiveness of products, projects or services by tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops. Makes recommendations on bid strategy and pricing alternates. Obtain quotes from outside suppliers for custom materials as required. Completes technical reviews, including structural reviews using available tools, and collaborates with engineering, project management and sales as required for effective product solutions. Maintain, and revise, all cost data and records contingent on changing conditions, methods and other factors involved. Prepare final estimates for management approval, including check and review of work of less senior Estimators. Expert level of pricing processes and in the use of pricing programs/systems; with ability to provide trouble shooting for pricing configurators and provide process improvements. Ability to quote multiple brands based on available training and pricing programs; and as needed based on Estimating department's capacity limitations and requirements.
Education: 2 year technical degree or related experience preferred. Experience: Minimum of five years of related experience required. Robust business, process, and industry knowledge. Costing and pricing experience required. Required Skills: Thorough knowledge of Architectural Metals products and processes, or equivalent. High level of professionalism. Self-motivated and able to multi-task proficiently. Strong organizational skills. Strong technical skills to include - Microsoft Office, product configurator and ERP software. Experience with comparing actual costs with estimates and analyze variations. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Attention to detail. Data analysis skills. Sound mathematical and numeracy skills. Ability to review projects for adding value and optimizing costs. Critical Thinking - using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Product Systems Evaluation - identifying measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the system. Judgment and Decision Making - considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
Mostly an office environment with occasional visits to the manufacturing floor (proper PPE must be worn on manufacturing floor). Occasional travel related to other sites / corporate. Must be able to lift and/or move 10lbs.
