Job Summary

The Estimator II independently develops complete estimates for routine pursuits and defined scopes on more complex work, with limited guidance on unusual technical or commercial issues. This role plans estimates, validates quantities and pricing, evaluates quotations, resolves routine scope and risk issues, and prepares defensible proposal deliverables. A typical project-value guide is up to approximately $25 million, but complexity, risk, delivery method, scope integration, and required independence govern assignment.

  • Plan and execute complete plan-and-specification, design-assist, and appropriate design-build estimates.
  • Develop and validate quantities, labor productivity, material and equipment pricing, indirect costs, and subcontractor coverage.
  • Evaluate quotations for scope alignment, exclusions, commercial terms, and pricing completeness.
  • Resolve routine design discrepancies and risks; elevate material scope, contractual, or execution concerns.
  • Perform ratio checks, self-review, benchmarking, and estimate reconciliation before formal review.
  • Prepare proposal pricing, assumptions, exclusions, alternates, and required estimate deliverables.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Procurement, Business Development, vendors, subcontractors, and design participants.
  • Support and coach less-experienced estimators on assigned work.
  • Contribute reliable cost, productivity, quotation, and market data to estimating records and tools.
Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant construction estimating or equivalent directly applicable construction experience, with a focus on mechanical/structural scopes.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently produce complete self-perform construction estimates for mechanical and structural work.
  • Experience estimating self-perform scopes including light civil, concrete/structural, steel installation, process engineering, and process piping.
  • Working knowledge of labor productivity, material and equipment pricing, crew composition, production rates, subcontractor analysis, indirect costs, and proposal development.
  • Ability to interpret and quantify from mechanical, structural, process, piping, civil, and architectural drawings and specifications.
  • Experience developing detailed takeoffs and estimates for process piping, structural steel, concrete, equipment installation, and related mechanical/industrial construction scopes.
  • Proficiency with applicable estimating and takeoff software, Microsoft Office, CRM, and document-management systems.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, written communication, and ability to manage multiple estimates and competing deadlines.
  • Ability to travel periodically to offices, client locations, and project sites.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability when driving is required.
  • Working proficiency in mechanical, structural, and industrial construction, including the ability to understand scope, quantities, labor requirements, productivity, and pricing.

Preferred:

  • Relevant degree, technical training, field experience, or professional certification.
  • Experience with Accubid, HeavyBid, Salesforce, PlanSwift, Bluebeam, or comparable systems.
  • Potential exposure to extreme cold and hot temperatures
  • Exposure to manufacturing, pipeline, and refining environment

  • Potential or periodic requirements may include the following:
