Job summary

Express Employment Professionals in Rochester, MN seeks an Estimator to prepare portions of contract proposal estimates across disciplines. The role requires advanced knowledge of mechanical systems and the ability to estimate medium to large plans, including design assist or design-build projects.

The on-site position is based at our Rochester, MN office, with responsibilities to develop proposals, review drawings, obtain quotes, and deliver cost estimates for current and prospective customers.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of estimating, engineering, or trade experience related to mechanical construction.
• Advanced knowledge of plumbing, piping, or sheet metal systems.
• Advanced understanding/expertise in Mechanical estimating software.
• Ability to interpret cost data with strong analytical and numerical skills.
• Associate degree preferred in engineering or related technical field.

Responsibilities

• Develop proposals and drawings to determine scope of work and contents of the estimate.
• Estimate sizes, distances, and quantities; determine time, costs, resources, or materials needed.
• Analyze blueprints to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
• Prepare estimates by calculating takeoffs of scope and contents.
• Review specifications and drawings to define scope and contents of the estimate.
• Develop proposals for current or prospective customers.
• Deliver accurate project cost estimates and monitor costs against bids.

Job description

As an Estimator, you will prepare portions of contract proposal estimates for one or more disciplines, including determining applicable project plans and specifications. It requires advanced knowledge of one or more disciplines, such as plumbing, piping, or sheet metal systems. May independently estimate a medium to large-sized plan/spec, design assist, or design-build projects.

on-site position is based out of our Rochester, MN, office.

Estimating, Proposing, and Assessing:

• Develop proposals and drawings to determine the scope of work and required contents of the estimate.
• Estimate sizes, distances, and quantities; or determine time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.
• Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
• Prepare estimates by calculating the complete takeoff of the scope of work and required contents of the estimate.
• Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine the scope of work and required contents of the estimate.
• May review design options and recommend the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
• Develop proposals for current or prospective customers.
• Develop and deliver accurate project cost estimates.
• Assess the cost-effectiveness of products, projects, or services, comparing actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
• Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation regularly for the project's duration.
• Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
• Review material and labor requirements to determine the most cost-effective outcome.
• Obtain quotes from subcontractors and vendors, adhering to scope and specifications.

Documentation:

• Document account activities, generate reports, and keep records of business transactions with customers and suppliers.
• Organize and maintain files of working documents as a backup for estimate figures.
• Support other department personnel as required, including preparing estimates in different disciplines.
• Contribute to the desired culture within the organization
• Contribute to a safety-centric work culture
• Provide training and mentorship to other Harris team members

Qualifications

• 2+ years of estimating, engineering, or trade experience related to mechanical construction
• Advanced knowledge of plumbing, piping, or sheet metal systems
• Advanced understanding/expertise in Mechanical estimating software
• Ability to interpret computerized cost data and systemsStrong analytical and numerical skills are required
• Associate degree preferred in engineering or related technical field

Pay Range:

$67,524.87 - $101,287.31

If the candidate brings more senior-level estimating experience, our client is open to considering that level, with a higher salary commensurate with the experience.
