Enterprise Electrical is seeking an Estimator I to support electrical construction bids in Phoenix, AZ. You will learn to perform quantity takeoffs, build cost estimates, and translate scopes into pricing under senior guidance.
You'll work closely with estimators to understand installation methods, develop accurate takeoffs, and help prepare proposals for small and medium projects, with exposure to data center bids.
Job Summary
The Estimator I supports the estimating function by performing quantity takeoffs and helping build cost estimates for electrical construction projects. This role is focused on learning how electrical work is installed, how labor is built, and how scopes are translated into pricing.
This position primarily supports small & medium projects, while contributing to portions of larger commercial and data center bids. The Estimator I works closely with the chief and senior estimators to understand real-world installation methods and develop accurate takeoffs and pricing.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
Tasks may include, but are not limited to the following:
Creating the project folder
Downloading project documents
Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from drawings for systems as assigned
Perform specification and project manual review
Perform quantity takes for systems as assigned
Build material lists in the bill of material format
Provide vendors with the bills of material to obtain material pricing and availability
Solicit subcontractor quotes for basic scopes (e.g., trenching, core drilling, low-voltage support)
Assist in developing labor estimates using standard labor units
Assist in preparing proposals and scope summaries
Support estimating team during bid day by updating pricing and organizing bid documents
Maintain cost databases, vendor contacts, and historical pricing information
Participate in jobsite visits to observe installation methods and verify quantities
Participate in project reviews
Look for ways to improve yourself and the processes used
Maintain department confidentiality

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Foundational knowledge of electrical construction and service operations, including basic understanding of power distribution, lighting systems, and low-voltage/data infrastructure commonly used in commercial and mission critical environments
Developing ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, panel schedules, and basic one-line diagrams, with the ability to identify major components and quantities
Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform accurate quantity takeoffs for conduit, wire, devices, fixtures, and equipment based on drawings and specifications
Basic understanding of electrical materials, installation methods, and construction sequencing, including how work is installed in the field and how that impacts labor and cost
Ability to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities in a deadline-driven environment, including balancing structured bid work with urgent service-related pricing requests
Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel for material tracking, quantity summaries, and simple cost calculations, along with working knowledge of estimating and takeoff tools such as Bluebeam and Accubid
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with estimators, project managers, service coordinators, field technicians, vendors, and subcontractors
Ability to ask questions, seek clarification, and translate field input (photos, service tickets, and verbal scope descriptions) into usable estimating information
Willingness and ability to learn field operations, including exposure to service work (troubleshooting, T&M jobs) and commercial installations, to better understand real-world constructability
Basic understanding of jobsite safety expectations and ability to follow safety requirements when visiting active construction sites in alignment with Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards
Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records, cost data, vendor information, and estimating documentation

Works under direction of estimator II, senior estimators and chief estimator

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use performing detailed takeoffs, cost analysis, and estimate preparation, including frequent use of multiple monitors and estimating software
Ability to read and interpret detailed construction drawings and technical documents (digital and printed) requiring strong visual focus and attention to detail
Regular jobsite visits requiring walking active construction sites, climbing stairs/ladders, accessing electrical/mechanical areas, and wearing required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, steel-toe boots)
Ability to travel locally to jobsites and meetings, lift and carry materials (up to 25–30 lbs), and work in varying environmental conditions including heat, cold, noise, and dust

Typical Schedule/Shift Details:
Standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, typically 8–10 hour days aligned with business and project needs; start and end times may vary based on bid deadlines, service demand, and operational requirements
Position requires flexibility to work extended hours, early mornings, evenings, or occasional weekends to support:
Critical bid submissions
High-priority service requests
Major project pursuits (including data center and fast-track work)
Schedule is driven by a combination of planned bid cycles and unplanned service-related requests, requiring the ability to adjust priorities and respond quickly to changing demands
Occasional travel and off-site work required for pre-bid walkthroughs, jobsite visits, client meetings, and coordination with field operations; schedule may adjust to align with jobsite access times or client requirements
Overtime Expectations:
This position is classified as exempt and is not eligible for overtime pay in accordance with applicable federal and state laws
The role is expected to fulfill the responsibilities of the position regardless of hours required, with workload driven by project portfolio demands, client commitments, and business objectives
Additional hours, including early mornings, extended workdays, evenings, or weekends, may be necessary to support critical project milestones, executive-level client needs, and schedule-sensitive activities
Availability outside of standard business hours is expected to address project issues, support decision‑making, and respond to time‑sensitive matters impacting project or business performance
Work schedules are managed with a high degree of independence and accountability, in coordination with senior leadership, to ensure successful delivery of projects and operational objectives
Required Education and Experience
Education:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related construction or technical field preferred
OR equivalent combination of education, military training, and hands‑on electrical construction, service, or field experience accepted
Foundational training in blueprint reading, electrical systems, estimating principles, or construction methods strongly preferred
Military experience, including veterans with electrical, engineering, construction, logistics, or technical occupational backgrounds, is highly valued
Relevant trade school, apprenticeship, or industry training may be considered in lieu of formal education requirements
Certifications/Licenses:
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required for jobsite visits and field exposure
Basic awareness of jobsite safety practices and ability to comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements
No electrical license required at this level; exposure to field safety practices and construction environments preferred
Experience Requirements:
3 years of experience in electrical construction, service operations, estimating support, or related construction environment
Exposure to electrical work preferred, including:
Apprentice or helper roles
Service technician support
Internships with electrical contractors or construction firms
Basic familiarity with construction drawings, specifications, and jobsite workflows preferred
Demonstrated ability to learn quickly in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment with high attention to detail
Experience working with field personnel, vendors, or internal teams in a support capacity is a plus
Equipment or Machines Routinely Used in This Position
Computer/laptop with estimating software (Accubid, Trimble, ConEst, or equivalent) used for basic quantity takeoffs and entry‑level pricing support (Accubid preferred)
Bluebeam or LiveCount for digital takeoffs, drawing review, and markups
Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) for material lists, quantity tracking, and internal communication
Digital plan rooms and document management systems (e.g., Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, SharePoint) to access drawings and specifications
