Job summary

Ames Construction is seeking an Estimator to prepare bids, develop cost estimates, and tighten price certainty for complex projects in the Central Office in Burnsville, MN. The role requires reading plans, collaborating with subs, and using HCSS Heavy Bid and related tools to build thorough, defendable estimates.

The ideal candidate has 3–7 years in construction estimation, a relevant degree, strong communication, and a team mindset. Travel and site visits are expected.

Qualifications

• 3-7 years' experience in general engineering construction.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction, Engineering, or Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
• Ability to work in a team environment and be self-motivated.
• Possess a positive attitude.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills to interface with owner representatives, engineering firms, subcontractors, other team members, and senior management.
• Competent in the use of computer software applications including HCSS Heavy Bid or similar estimating programs, AGTEK or similar earthwork programs, Bluebeam, Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Knowledge of Primavera P6 Scheduling.
• Strong communication skills both written and oral.
• Ability to review and address technical issues with solutions in a timely manner.
• Time management, multitasking, and prioritization.
• Must have a valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Analyze plans, specifications and related documents.
• Understand measurement, payment terms, schedules and permitting requirements.
• Prepare quantity take-offs and pricing; develop estimates.
• Collaborate with vendors and subcontractors to define scope.
• Provide cost certainty for items assigned and identify risks.
