Job summary

Barnowl Advisory Group is seeking an Estimator to develop detailed project estimates from drawings and specs, assist with bid communications and scope development, and support the Lead Estimator in cost setup for materials, labor, and subcontractors.

The ideal candidate will read construction documents, manage multiple bids, and collaborate with project teams to ensure accurate, timely proposals using BlueBeam, Primavera, Excel, Word, and MS Project.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Civil, Architectural Engineering, or Construction Management or equivalent field experience.
  • Minimum of four (4) years construction experience with a minimum of two (2) years of estimating experience.
  • Reading and interpreting construction documents with accuracy.
  • Proficient in BlueBeam, Primavera, Excel, Word, and MS Project.

Responsibilities

  • Support subcontractor and supplier estimating and bidding processes.
  • Process RFP, RFQ, and internal pricing requests and coordinate bidding opportunities.
  • Draft, review, and deliver proposals to clients.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Marketing, and admin staff on proposals.
  • Qualify sub-tier bids for completeness and compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with bidding regulations and project goals.
  • Develop and present proposals to existing or new clients.
  • Handle multiple bids and meet deadlines.
  • Operate and maintain estimating systems and software.
  • Implement QA controls to minimize risk and relay changes to management.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize client positioning in bids.

Job description

Job Summary:

The Estimator is responsible for detailed estimates for the project based on the construction drawings and specifications. Assists with the communication of bids and scopes of work. This position also assists Lead Estimator to establish costs for materials, equipment, subcontracted work, production activities, requirements, and labor.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Support all aspects of subcontractor and supplier estimating and bidding processes.
  • Process RFP, RFQ, and internal pricing request and facilitate broadcast announcement of bidding opportunity.
  • Competently draft, proof, review, and deliver both private and public proposals.
  • Work with Project Managers, Marketing, and administrative staff coordinating contributions from all into proposals.
  • Qualify sub-tier bids for completeness and compliance.
  • Ensure company compliance with bidding regulations and goals of each project (advertising, etc.)
  • Develop, prepare, coordinate, and execute presentations and proposals to existing or new clients.
  • Work on multiple company bids simultaneously and delivering in accordance with deadline objectives.
  • Operate and maintain proficiency in all internal estimating systems, technologies, and software.
  • Minimizes exposure and risk by implementing quality assurance controls in estimating. Promptly reports changes and issues in scope and revenue to senior management.
  • Identify and execute strategic opportunities within proposal to optimize clients position in securing the work.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Experience in estimating commercial construction projects.
  • Able to read, understand and follow required construction documents.
  • Proficient in construction estimating software (BlueBeam, Primavera Scheduling. MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project)
  • Excellent written and verbal skills & strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Able to work with external clients using strong commercial awareness.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Strong leadership attributes.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, coworkers, and vendors.
  • Familiarity with cost control methods and financial & project management principles.
  • In depth knowledge of research and data analysis methods and estimation metrics
  • Outstanding communication and negotiation abilities.
Education and Experience:
  • BS degree in Civil, Architectural Engineering, or Construction Management or equivalent field experience.
  • Minimum of four (4) years construction experience with a minimum of two (2) years of estimating experience.
