WHAT YOU’LL DO
The quick overview
The Estimator will be responsible for preparing and managing detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates for new home construction projects, coordinating with suppliers and trade partners, and supporting the budgeting and bidding process to ensure accurate pricing and smooth project delivery. You will work independently while understanding the necessity for communication and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations. Nobody’s an island!
The nitty-gritty stuff
- Develop, standardize, and document estimating methodologies, ensuring consistent processes and reliable cost data across all projects
- Review architectural plans, specifications, and project documents to determine scope of work
- Identify cost-related risks in project documents and propose proactive solutions
- Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates for labor, materials, and subcontracted work
- Ensure estimates comply with building codes, industry standards, and internal company policies
- Review construction plans with subcontractors to evaluate practicality, identify technical challenges, and confirm constructability before finalizing estimates
- Conduct field audits and site visits to validate quantity take-offs, confirm accuracy of estimates, and ensure alignment with actual construction practices
- Develop and maintain cost databases for material and labor pricing
- Update historical cost data to strengthen future forecasting
- Leverage estimating software and digital take-off tools to improve efficiency, accuracy, and consistency
- Support the integration of estimating data into company ERP or project management systems.
- Collaborate with the sales and design teams to review custom option requests, prepare accurate cost estimates, and help establish retail pricing that balances profitability with customer value
- Assist sales and design teams in presenting cost implications of custom options to clients
- Provide value-engineering options to improve cost efficiency & optimize design without compromising quality
WHAT YOU NEED
- Experience in residential construction estimating with knowledge of construction methods, materials, & building codes
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., BuilderTREND, PlanSwift, Bluebeam, or similar)
- Excellent attention to detail, strong math/analytical skills, highly organized, and ability to read & interpret blueprints
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate schedules and promptly communicate to involved individuals who and what are needed at a time and place

- Competitive salary of $75,000 - $105,000 (depending on experience)
