Job summary

Ridout Lumber and Meek's, Divisions of US LBM Holdings, LLC, seeks an Estimator who uses computer technology and math to estimate material quantities for home construction, in line with company policies.

You will read blueprints, assist sales staff, train others, review estimates against actuals, and support contractors while helping manage budget and participate in trainings.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in engineering or related area required.
• 1-3 years construction and building materials experience required.
• Ability to read blueprints and interpret building plans.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to operate networked computer systems and specialized software.

Responsibilities

• Estimate the amount of materials needed for home construction according to company policy and local building code.
• Assist salesmen as needed with customer orders and materials lists.
• Assist in trim take-offs as requested.
• Provide assistance to contractors as needed.
• Train sales representatives in estimating techniques.
• Assist sales staff with blueprint reading and construction procedures.
• Review actual vs. estimated materials on completion of each project.
• Work on sales/ hardware counter as assigned.
• Control expenditures to conform to company budgetary requirements.

A Brief Overview

The Estimator uses computer technology and mathematical skill to prepare an estimation of the amount of material needed for the construction of a home in accordance with Company policies.

What you will do

• Estimate the amount of materials needed for home construction according to company policy and local building code.
• Assist salesmen as needed with customer orders and materials lists.
• Assist in trim take-offs as requested.
• Provide assistance to contractors as needed.
• Train sales representatives in estimating techniques.
• Assist sales staff with blueprint reading and construction procedures.
• Review actual vs. estimated materials on completion of each project.
• Work on sales/ hardware counter as assigned.
• Control expenditures to conform to company budgetary requirements.

• Ability to interpret building plans in diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
• Ability to operate networked computer systems and specialized software application programs and to instruct others in effective use of application software.
• Must have excellent oral communication skills and positive interpersonal skills.
• Understanding of measurements and basic math principles.
