Job summary

SPS New England, Inc. in Salisbury, MA is seeking an Associate Estimator to support bid preparation and management for heavy civil construction projects.

You will perform quantity take-offs, cost estimating, subcontractor outreach, and bid close-out while collaborating with experienced estimators, project managers, and the construction team. Project types include bridge, highway, railroad/trackwork, and marine work with values from several million up to billions.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred; equivalent construction experience will be considered.
  • 2–5 years of estimating or related construction experience, preferably in heavy civil or transportation infrastructure.
  • Experience with HCSS HeavyBid, HCSS HeavyJob, Bluebeam, Agtek, Primavera P6, Procore, and Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Estimating experience in Bridge, Highway, Railroad/Trackwork, or Marine Construction preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparing accurate, detailed, and timely estimates for heavy civil construction projects.
  • Review and interpret project plans, specifications, drawings, and contract documents.
  • Perform quantity take-offs and assist with cost analysis for materials, labor, and equipment.
  • Request and organize subcontractor and supplier quotes and assist with quote comparisons and cost leveling.
  • Assist with developing project schedules and constructability reviews as part of the estimating process.
  • Participate in bid review meetings and assist with bid preparation and final close-out.
  • Maintain organized estimate files, historical cost information, and project data.
  • Assist project teams following contract award by providing estimate breakdowns and cost information.
  • Work closely with senior estimators and project teams to understand construction means, methods, and sequencing.
  • Perform additional estimating and administrative duties as assigned.

Job description

The Estimator will support the preparation and management of bids for heavy civil construction projects and contribute to various phases of the estimating process. Responsibilities will include bid set-up, quantity take-offs, subcontractor and vendor outreach, cost estimating, and bid close-out. The Associate Estimator will work closely with experienced estimators, project managers, and other members of the construction team to develop accurate and competitive estimates.

Project values may range from $5 million to over $2 billion, covering a variety of heavy civil infrastructure work, including Bridge, Highway, Railroad/Trackwork, and Marine Construction. Experience in these areas of heavy civil construction is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ability to learn new software and estimating processes.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
