Job summary

Yates Industries, Inc. is seeking an Estimator to analyze blueprints and specifications to prepare time, cost, material, and labor estimates for manufacturing and repair projects. Qualifications

Job description

The Estimator is responsible for analyzing blueprints, specifications, and related documentation to prepare accurate time, cost, material, and labor estimates for manufacturing and repair projects. This position supports both commercial and government contract work, ensuring competitive and compliant bids that meet company objectives. The Estimator collaborates closely with vendors, purchasing, and production teams to determine the most cost-effective methods for manufacturing or procuring components.

In addition to estimating duties, this role leads all government bids and projects, serving as the primary user of BidNet software to identify and manage opportunities. The Estimator coordinates directly with government agencies, buyers, and inspectors to process solicitations and achieve assigned government sales goals.

Essential Duties
  • Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Consult with vendors to discuss formulate estimates.
  • Prepare estimates for the purpose of planning and scheduling work.
  • Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors and/or subcontractors including assisting the Purchasing Department as needed.
  • Review material and labor requirements to determine most cost effective to produce or purchase components.
  • Prepare quotes and sales orders for special situations and customer requests.
  • Team-lead for all government jobs and projects.
  • Primary user for BidNet software.
  • Search BidNet for all related government projects that Yates bids on.
  • Coordinate with government agencies, buyers, inspectors to process all government solicitations. Overall goal will be to reach or exceed assigned government sales goal each year.
  • Serve as a backup to the Purchasing Agent and New Manufacturing / Repair Estimators as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Language Ability

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of M2M and Microsoft Outlook.

Education/Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Ability to read a tape measure.
  • Familiar with both micrometers and caliper measuring tools.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Knowledge of how seals hold pressure.
  • Ability to assemble/disassemble cylinders, dry test, evaluate and check for dimensions for accuracy.
  • Self-motivated
  • Ability to understand written instructions.
  • Ability to print drawings to perform job completion with minimal supervision.

In addition, long hair must be tied back when around hazards of flame, machinery, or equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
