Job summary

Twining, an innovative engineering, testing, and inspection company with over 120 years of history, seeks an Estimator for its Long Beach Headquarters Office. This role focuses on estimating and sales professional services to the construction industry, under the Director of Infrastructure Operations.

Responsibilities include reviewing opportunities with the Director, developing proposals, reading drawings, and presenting estimates to clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or at least 2 years estimating experience in construction or engineering.
• Experience in highway, paving, public works, rail, airport or transportation markets.
• Strong analytical, math and people skills.

Responsibilities

• Review construction opportunities with the Director of Infrastructure Operations for QC testing and inspection services.
• Identify proposal opportunities and develop strategic client relationships.
• Collaborate with contractors and engineers to ensure estimate accuracy.
• Read and interpret construction drawings, plans and specifications.
• Develop quality control estimates based on drawings and code requirements.
• Present estimates to the Director for final decision and to clients in a timely manner.
• Suggest cost-reduction options and attend industry events.

Estimator - Long Beach, CA

Twining, an innovative engineering, testing, and inspection Company with over 120 years of history, is seeking an Estimator for its Long Beach Headquarters Office. This position will be responsible for estimating and sales professional services to the construction industry. The candidate must be self-starting, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment under the supervision of the Director of Infrastructure Operations. Responsibilities

• Daily review of construction opportunities with Director of Infrastructure Operations for quality control testing and inspection services with general contractors for public works agencies (such as Caltrans, San Gabriel Council of Governments, San Bernardino County of Transportation Authority, etc.).
• Identification of quality control testing and inspection proposal opportunities with Director of Infrastructure Operations.
• Develop strategic relationships with potential general contractor clients with Director of Infrastructure Operations.
• Assists in the collection leads and coordinate follow up with potential clients with Director of Infrastructure Operations approval.
• Speak knowledgably about company services and brand.
• Learn and understand current client base for new technical service lines.
• Read, understand and interpret construction drawings.
• Develop quality control estimates based on construction drawings preparation, code requirements.
• Read plans and specifications.
• Read, understand and interpret variables in code/city requirements.
• Track upcoming project pursuits and estimates.
• Assess project requirements, time, labor, and material costs.
• Collaborate with contractors and engineers, and during estimate creation to ensure overall accuracy.
• Present estimates to Director of Infrastructure Operations for final say in the calculation, analysis, and adjustment of estimates.
• Present estimates to clients in a timely manner.
• Recommend cost-reduction options.
• Attend industry networking and social events.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in business, marketing, English, communications, journalism, engineering; or related field or minimum of 2 years relevant experience in estimating in a construction or engineering company.
• Experience with Highway, paving, public works, rail, airport or transportation construction markets.
• Strong analytical, math and people skills.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Strong written communication skills.
• Curiosity and interest in learning.
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
• Superior time management skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments at the same time.
• Experience working in the Engineering/Construction industry; familiarity with market, agencies and companies.
• Understanding of project drawing and specifications.
• Understanding of construction code/city requirements.
