Job summary

Jacksonville, FL-based civil contractor is seeking a Civil Construction Estimator to join the team. The role focuses on preparing estimates for site development projects and collaborating with operations, vendors, and leadership during bidding.

The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of site development, can review plans, perform takeoffs, and develop cost estimates for bids. Onsite, full-time in Jacksonville, with typical visiting sites during bids.

Qualifications

• Experience in civil construction estimating or site development.
• Ability to read and interpret civil plans.
• Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to coordinate with estimating, operations, vendors, and subcontractors.
• Experience with AGTEK and HCSS is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Review construction plans, specifications, drawings, and bid documents.

• Calculate quantities for clearing, earthwork, drainage, utilities, roadways, asphalt, curb, and sidewalks.
• Analyze labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and supplier costs.
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor pricing.
• Coordinate with project management and operations throughout the estimating process.
• Assist with identifying value-engineering opportunities while maintaining requirements.
• Occasionally visit local project sites with senior estimators to evaluate bid conditions.

Civil Construction Estimator

Jacksonville, FL | Full-Time | Onsite

A well-established civil construction and site development contractor in Northeast Florida is seeking a Civil Construction Estimator to join its Jacksonville team. This organization has a long-standing presence in the local market and specializes in horizontal site development projects throughout the region.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced estimator or a construction professional with strong knowledge of site development who is interested in growing into an estimating role.

The Opportunity

The Civil Construction Estimator will support the preparation of accurate and competitive estimates for a variety of site development projects. This individual will review construction plans, perform quantity takeoffs, develop project costs, and collaborate with operations, vendors, subcontractors, and leadership throughout the bidding process.

Projects may include all aspects of horizontal site development, including clearing, earthwork, grading, drainage, underground utilities, roadway construction, curb, asphalt, and sidewalks.

Key Responsibilities

• Review construction plans, specifications, drawings, and bid documents.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for civil/site development projects.
• Develop accurate project estimates and competitive bids.
• Calculate quantities associated with clearing, earthwork, grading, drainage, utilities, roadways, asphalt, curb, and sidewalks.
• Analyze labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and supplier costs.
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor pricing.
• Coordinate with project management and operations throughout the estimating process.
• Assist with identifying value-engineering opportunities while maintaining project requirements and quality standards.
• Occasionally visit local project sites with senior estimating personnel to evaluate conditions relevant to a bid.

Ideal Background

Previous civil construction estimating experience is highly desirable; however, the company is also open to individuals with strong hands‑on knowledge of site development and civil construction who have the aptitude to transition into estimating.

Relevant backgrounds may include:

• Civil/site development estimating
• Land surveying or construction surveying
• Site development field operations
• Earthwork and grading
• Land clearing
• Stormwater and drainage
• Underground utilities, including water, sewer, and reclaimed water
• Roadway construction
• Concrete curb and gutter
• Asphalt and sidewalk construction
• Heavy civil construction

Candidates coming from the field should have a strong understanding of how site development projects are constructed and the ability to visualize project requirements from civil plans.

Qualifications

• Experience within civil construction, heavy civil, site development, surveying, or a related field.
• Ability to read and interpret civil construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
• Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
• Strong communication and time‑management skills.
• Ability to work effectively with estimating, operations, project management, vendors, and subcontractors.
• Experience with AGTEK takeoff software is highly desirable.
• Experience with HCSS HeavyBid is preferred.
• Previous estimating experience is preferred but may not be required for candidates with strong applicable site‑development knowledge.

Work Environment

This is a full‑time, onsite position in Jacksonville, Florida. The role is primarily office‑based with no routine overnight or out‑of‑town travel. Occasional local site visits may be required during the bidding process.
