Job summary

Black & Veatch Family of Companies in Jacksonville, FL is seeking an Estimator to support pre-construction and proposal efforts for lump sum, unit rate and cost‑plus projects. You’ll coordinate discipline estimates, review designs, and develop quantities to produce competitive cost estimates.

You’ll analyze scopes, perform productivity studies, maintain historical cost data, and contribute to contingency and escalation planning.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of relevant estimating experience.
• Onboarding and background checks may be required for selected candidates.
• Strong skills with estimating software and cost data analysis.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Estimator assists in preparation and review of lump sum, unit rate and cost plus estimates and in preparation of conceptual estimating cost analysis.May assist in pre‑construction activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for estimate coordination and consolidation of each of the discipline estimates into the Proposal Estimate
• Reviews design scopes and develop quantities
• Performs productivity analysis of construction operations
• Prepares contingency, escalation and reconciliation for estimates
• Performs comparisons of scope, quantities and cost data between projects
• Updates and maintains historical cost data
• Reviews designs and specifications for cost effectiveness and suggest alternatives where appropriate
• Supports continuous improvement efforts and change management

Pre-Construction Activities

• Perform Scope Review focusing on:
  • Project Objectives
  • Deliverables
  • Overall Project Requirements
• Assist the Pre-Construction/Estimating team in developing preliminary Work Packages
• During the Development of Project Work Packages may perform a risk assessment and participate in mitigation strategy discussions

Minimum Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant experience
• All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

• BS or MS graduate in Construction Management or related field is preferred
• Field experience is a plus
• Project experience is a plus
