Job summary

Filanc seeks an experienced Estimator to join our estimating team. The role involves bid and estimating activities for water and wastewater infrastructure projects, reviewing plans, calculating material costs, and coordinating with subcontractors.

The candidate will support pre-bid and post-bid activities, negotiate subs, and assist in final estimate assembly and proposal presentations. Office-based in Denver with a strong focus on accuracy and collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of eight years construction experience with at least four years estimating in water/wastewater or heavy civil.
• Design-build and Construction Manager at risk experience is a plus.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and internet.
• Planswift experience helpful.
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Pre Bid: perform quantity take-offs and apply labor productivity to estimates.
• Pre Bid: obtain competitive pricing and solicit subcontracts/suppliers.
• Pre Bid: coordinate and provide access to information for subcontractors bids.
• Pre Bid: review scopes with engineers and document clarifications.
• Post Bid: prepare bid hand-off summaries and present scope and cost estimates.
• Post Bid: assist with buy-out of subcontracts and material purchasing.
• Post Bid: support project management with change orders.

Essential Functions:

The Estimator will assist the Estimating team in all aspects of the bid/estimating process from the review of plans and specifications, estimating material cost and craft labor productivity, soliciting and negotiating prices from subcontractors/suppliers through the completion of the bid/estimating effort for a variety of water/wastewater treatment and infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities:

Pre Bid:

• Performs quantity take-offs
• Applies self-perform labor man-hours and productivity to estimates
• Obtains competitive commodity pricing and solicits quotations for any specialty equipment and material
• Directs, coordinates and provides access to information and documents to subcontractors and solicits subcontractors bids
• Performs reviews with subcontractors and vendors to verify scopes of work and ensure scope and price are complete
• Evaluates the lowest cost, qualified subcontractor/bid
• Communicates with engineers to clarify scope of work, materials, schedule requirements and documents these clarifications
• Actively participates in the internal estimate review process
• Assists with final assembly of estimate including proposal presentation

Post Bid:

• Collects and organizes all bid information for future reference
• Prepares summary of bid hand-off on successful bidsli>
• Explains scope and cost estimate for project presentation
• Aids in maintaining historical data
• Participates in buy-out of subcontracts and material purchase order
• Supports project management team in pricing and negotiating change orders
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the manager or his/her designee

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or related field or comparable field experience and training
• Minimum of eight (8) years construction experience with at least four (4) years estimating in water/wastewater or heavy civil industry
• Design-build and Construction Manager at risk experience a plus
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) as well as the use of the internet
• Planswift experience helpful.
• Must have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Working Conditions:

95% of the time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), Timberline, telephones, and general office equipment. 5% of the time may be spent outside of the office at other locations to attend job walks, site visits, training, seminars, etc.
