Job summary

Green Key Resources is supporting a growing General Contractor in Columbus seeking an Estimator to join the preconstruction team. The role targets someone early in their estimating career with experience in hard-bid estimating, quantity takeoffs, and subcontractor pricing, open to transition into full GC estimating.

Ideal candidates may come from specialty subcontractors, suppliers, or similar fields, with direct GC estimating helpful but not required.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years estimating or related construction experience preferred.
• Experience with hard-bid estimating, quantity takeoffs, or competitive pricing.
• Bachelor's degree preferred but relevant experience will be considered.
• Strong understanding of construction plans and specifications.
• Comfortable with numbers, spreadsheets, and detailed project information.

Job description

A growing General Contractor in Columbus is looking to add an Estimator to their preconstruction team. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their estimating career who has experience with hard-bid estimating, quantity takeoffs, subcontractor pricing, or competitive bidding and is interested in transitioning into the General Contracting side of construction.

The ideal candidate may come from a specialty subcontractor, construction supplier, or another industry where they have developed strong estimating and pricing skills. Direct GC estimating experience is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with estimating commercial construction projects from conceptual stages through bid submission
• Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project documents
• Perform quantity takeoffs and develop accurate material and labor estimates
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor bids
• Compare subcontractor proposals and identify scope gaps, exclusions, and discrepancies
• Assist with developing competitive bid packages and project budgets
• Maintain organized estimating documentation and bid records
• Work with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, and vendors to understand project scope and pricing
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, scope reviews, and subcontractor outreach
• Assist with value engineering and identifying cost-saving opportunities
• Learn the full preconstruction process and develop into a well-rounded General Contracting Estimator

This position offers the opportunity to learn General Contracting from the ground up while working alongside an experienced preconstruction team. Candidates coming from a subcontractor or specialty trade environment will have the opportunity to leverage their existing estimating knowledge while expanding their experience into full-project estimating, subcontractor management, budgeting, and commercial construction preconstruction.
