Job summary

Gibraltar US, Inc. is seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to support heavy civil projects from concept through completion. You will develop accurate cost estimates, manage budgets, and balance technical, financial, and client-focused responsibilities.

The role requires strong heavy civil construction knowledge, proficiency in HeavyBid and Procore, and experience with budgeting, scheduling, and subcontractor oversight.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • Proven experience estimating and managing heavy civil construction projects.
  • Client-facing project management experience.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze blueprints, specifications, and project documents to determine quantities, labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor needs.
  • Solicit and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates, proposals, contingencies, and risk assessments.
  • Present clear and professional estimate breakdowns to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage change orders and ensure scope revisions are properly documented.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to support heavy civil construction projects from concept through completion. This role is responsible for developing accurate cost estimates and managing budgets to ensure successful delivery. The ideal candidate has strong experience in heavy civil construction, excellent cost control skills, and the ability to balance technical, financial, and client-focused responsibilities.

What You’ll Do
  • Estimating Responsibilities
    • Analyze blueprints, specifications, and project documents to determine quantities, labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor needs.
    • Solicit and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.
    • Prepare detailed cost estimates, proposals, contingencies, and risk assessments.
    • Present clear and professional estimate breakdowns to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Communication & Client Relations
    • Present proposals and estimates to clients and respond to questions clearly and professionally.
    • Maintain ongoing communication with clients and provide regular project updates.
    • Address client concerns promptly to support strong working relationships.
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Manage change orders and ensure scope revisions are properly documented.
    • Identify and mitigate project risks to avoid delays and budget impacts.
    • Provide project status updates and financial reports to senior leadership.
What You Bring
  • Strong knowledge of heavy civil construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • Proficiency in construction estimating software (e.g., HeavyBid) and project management platforms (e.g., Procore).
  • Experience with budgeting, scheduling, procurement, and subcontractor oversight.
  • Familiarity with Primavera P6 preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and client-facing abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • Proven experience estimating and managing heavy civil construction projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in client-facing project management roles.
