Job summary

Shawmut Design and Construction is seeking an Estimator in Boston to join a team known for employee ownership and award-winning workplace culture. You will partner with project managers to plan projects, develop budgets, and secure competitive bids while delivering accurate estimates that align with client needs.

The role supports high-profile projects across sectors, with a focus on precision, collaboration, and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in construction estimating, preferably in commercial construction.
• Vast knowledge of all trades, including MEP systems and components.
• Experience estimating in Education, Commercial, Corporate Interiors, Life Sciences, Hospitality, Retail and Sports Venues.
• Solid conceptual estimating experience.
• Timberline (Precision Estimating) experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Work with the project manager to plan the job prior to project initiation, including general conditions study and procurement schedule.
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of project strategy and apply it across estimating.
• Establish the pre-construction budget and manage related funds.
• Ensure best bids are obtained for each trade based on project needs.
• Structure a fair final sub bid process with clear scope, logistics, and bid alignment.
• Present information and proposals effectively to clients based on their needs.

Responsibilities

• Work in partnership with the project manager to plan the job prior to project initiation i.e. general conditions study, procurement schedule, logistics, etc
• Develop comprehensive understanding of project strategy and deploy this throughout the estimating process
• Establish the pre-construction budget and manage the associated funds
• Ensures that the best bids are obtained for each trade, based on the needs of the project
• Structure a fair and comprehensive final sub bid process by incorporating all information from previous budgets, by educating all subs on the Shawmut view of the project, including, but not limited to detailed written scope of work, logistics, etc., so that they are all bidding on the same work
• Present information and proposals effectively to clients based on their needs and preferences

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in construction estimating or a related field (preferably in commercial construction).
• Vast knowledge of all trades: scope, time frames/field execution, typical missed scope/exposures and an understanding of MEP systems and components.
• Experience estimating in one or more of our sectors: Education, Commercial, Corporate Interiors, Life Sciences, Hospitality, Retail and Sports Venues.
• Solid conceptual estimating experience.
• Timberline (Precision Estimating) experience is a plus.
