Job description

We are currently partnered with one of Greater Boston's most established General Contractors in their search for an Estimator to join a growing preconstruction team supporting a diverse portfolio of projects throughout Massachusetts and New England.

This is an opportunity to join a well-established builder delivering projects across multifamily, commercial, healthcare, life sciences, higher education, hospitality, institutional, and mixed-use construction, ranging from renovations and interior build-outs to large-scale ground-up developments.

The Estimator will play an important role throughout the preconstruction process, working closely with senior estimating leadership, operations, ownership groups, architects, and trade partners to develop projects from early conceptual budgeting through final pricing and construction.

What You'll Be Working On
  • Ground-Up Commercial Construction
  • Multifamily & Residential
  • Higher Education & Institutional
  • Corporate & Commercial
  • Hospitality
  • Mixed-Use Developments
  • Renovations & Interior Build-Outs
  • Complex Urban Construction

Projects can range from smaller renovations and fit-outs to large-scale, technically complex developments involving structural steel, concrete, wood-frame construction, challenging site logistics, sophisticated building systems, and occupied environments.

The Opportunity

This position is ideal for an estimator who wants exposure to a diverse project portfolio while continuing to develop their experience across the full preconstruction lifecycle.

Rather than simply producing takeoffs, the Estimator will have meaningful involvement in budgeting, subcontractor engagement, scope development, value engineering, constructability, and overall preconstruction strategy.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Developing conceptual, schematic, design-development, and construction-document estimates
  • Performing detailed quantity takeoffs and developing trade-level pricing
  • Soliciting and evaluating subcontractor and supplier proposals
  • Preparing bid packages and detailed scopes of work
  • Leveling subcontractor bids and identifying scope gaps
  • Working with project teams on constructability and value-engineering opportunities
  • Developing budgets and cost models throughout design
  • Tracking pricing changes and maintaining estimate accuracy as projects progress
  • Coordinating closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and preconstruction leadership
  • Building and maintaining relationships with subcontractors throughout Greater Boston
Ideal Background
  • 5+ years of commercial construction estimating experience
  • General Contractor or Construction Management background preferred
  • Experience estimating ground-up construction, renovations, or complex commercial projects
  • Experience across multifamily, healthcare, life sciences, higher education, commercial, institutional, or similar markets
  • Knowledge of structural steel, concrete, wood-frame, and other major building systems
  • Experience taking projects from conceptual budgeting through final GMP or bid
  • Strong subcontractor relationships within the Greater Boston construction market
  • Ability to understand drawings, specifications, trade scopes, and constructability
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred
  • Annual Bonus Potential
  • 401(k) with Company Match
  • Paid Time Off & Holidays
  • Professional Development & Career Advancement Opportunities
  • Long-Term Growth with One of Massachusetts' Larger General Contractors
Why This Role Stands Out

This is a strong opportunity for an estimator looking to continue developing their career with an established General Contractor while gaining exposure to a wide variety of construction projects.

The company maintains a diverse and consistent project pipeline, giving the Estimator the opportunity to work on projects of varying size, scope, complexity, and construction type throughout Greater Boston and the surrounding region.

You'll join an experienced preconstruction team and work closely with project leadership, operations, clients, design teams, and trade partners throughout the estimating and preconstruction process.

The role offers the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility and project ownership, strengthen your overall preconstruction skill set, and build a long-term career within a growing organization.
