Job summary

Gage Commercial Construction is seeking an experienced Estimator to craft budgets, estimates and proposals for multifamily renovation and reconstruction projects in Austin. You will review plans, perform takeoffs, evaluate bids, and price changes while collaborating with Sales, Project Management, Operations, and Production teams.

You will participate in bid reviews and field observations to improve estimate accuracy and support data-driven project handoffs.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of construction estimating or field-based experience.
• Based in the Austin, Texas area and available to work on-site in our Austin office.
• Proficiency with estimating software, including Excel, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Sage Estimating.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent estimating experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and manage project estimates, budgets, proposals, and change order pricing.
• Review plans, specifications, and project documents to develop accurate pricing and identify scope gaps and risks.
• Complete quantity takeoffs and solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids.
• Analyze labor, material, equipment, and production costs to develop budgets.
• Lead estimate and proposal review meetings with Sales, Project Management, Operations, and Production teams.
• Collaborate with project teams to evaluate estimate performance and identify improvements.
• Maintain and continuously improve historical cost databases to support estimating accuracy.

Role Description:

As an Estimator at Gage Commercial Construction, you will develop accurate budgets, estimates, and proposals for multifamily renovation and reconstruction projects. You’ll review plans and specifications, complete quantity takeoffs, evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids, analyze project costs, and develop pricing for new projects and change orders. You’ll work closely with Sales, Project Management, Operations, and Production to align scope, pricing, and project expectations.

This role goes beyond estimating. You’ll participate in bid reviews and presentations, spend time in the field evaluating estimate performance, support project handoffs, and use project results and lessons learned to improve future estimates. You’ll also help maintain Gage’s historical cost database and contribute to continuous improvement across the estimating process.

• Collaborate with project teams throughout the project lifecycle to evaluate estimate performance and identify opportunities for improvement
• Maintain and continuously improve Gage’s historical cost database to support estimating accuracy
• Support project handoffs and participate in post-project cost reviews and lessons learned

Qualifications

• 5+ years of construction estimating or field based experience, preferably in multifamily or commercial construction
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent estimating experience
• Proficiency with estimating and construction software, including Excel, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Sage Estimating, or similar platforms
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, building materials, and ability to read architectural and engineering plans
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
• Based in the Austin, Texas area and available to work on-site in our Austin office
